The Lawton Blue Devils played their first of three games in the SAC-Valley in the 7th week of the MHSAA season. At 6-0, they took on an 0-6 Galesburg-Augusta team in a mismatch on paper. The highest-powered offense in the state actually saw their points per game average decrease with a 49-point output in this win. The Blue Devils shutout the Rams, 49-0.

In the first quarter, Lawton scored twice. Jake Rueff crossed the goal line first with a 7-yard score. Later in the frame, Carter Cosby broke off a 19-yard run. A missed extra point left the score 13-0 in favor of the Blue Devils.

Lawton continued to produce in the second quarter, scoring a trio of touchdowns. Kal Motter pounced first, with a 5-yard touchdown plunge. The Blue Devils took to the air for their next score, as Aiden O’Brien found Chase Mitchell on a 22-yard score. Jake Rueff returned to the end zone, adding a two-point conversion to his 18-yard touchdown run.

Ahead 35-0 at halftime, the running clock was in effect. Regardless, Lawton still struck twice in the third quarter. Carter Cosby got the first touchdown on a 25-yard run. JJ Crall finished off the scoring with a 5-yard carry to the end zone.

Lawton outgained Galesburg-Augusta 324-87 in this victory. The Blue Devils rushed for 237 yards. All of Galesburg-Augusta’s yardage came on the ground, as the Rams were 0/7 passing.

Jake Rueff led the way for Lawton, tallying 120 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Carter Cosby added 55 yards, while Kal Motter chipped in 34.

Next week, Lawton will square off against Schoolcraft. Galesburg-Augusta’s pursuit of their first victory continues on Friday, as the Rams face Saugatuck.
