Kelloggsville, we have blast off! The Rockets soared to their victory on the field (one forfeit win) since October 5, 2018 on Friday night. They were able to take care of Calvin Christian, 70-22.
This was a remarkable team effort for Kelloggsville and Head Coach Brandon Branch. Typically a passing team, Kelloggsville only passed for 166 yards in this game. Instead, they accumulated 184 rushing yards. Brendan Tuinstra led the way with 9 carries for 159 yards and a rushing touchdown. Zach Zerfas and Camron Townsend both added rushing totals to the scoreboard.
Zerfas, the quarterback, also tossed for two touchdowns. He found Camron Townsend, and then he also paired up with Jabari Campbell, his two favorite targets. Campbell led the way with 111 yards, while Townsend had 49, both on six catches.
Defensively, Demarion Rodriquez led the way with 7 tackles, and he added a 30-yard kick return for a score. In addition to his stellar offense, Camron Townsend’s impact was felt defensively as well. He has three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns (25 and 98 yards). Townsend also made an impact on special teams, returning a punt for a score, his fifth touchdown of the game.
Paul Bouma IV was 12/22 passing, racking up 180 yards and 4 interceptions. He managed to rush for two scores, tallying 90 yards on 16 carries. James Daniels also scored for Calvin Christian, with an 11-carry, 100-yard performance. Daniels was also the receiving leader for the Squires, with 7 catches and 132 yards.
Kelloggsville will return to action next week against Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. Calvin Christian will face Hopkins.
