The Brother Rice Warriors were facing their first OK Conference opponent since the 2013 State Championship game, when they took down Muskegon. It was the third straight win for Brother Rice against OK Conference foes. After Friday night, the streak now sits at four, as the Warriors disposed rather easily of East Kentwood, posting a 33-0 shutout.
Early in the first quarter, the Brother Rice defense got things started. Sam Klein stepped in front of a Falcons’ pass, and he was off to the races. He ran into the end zone, giving the Warriors an early 6-0 edge.
Brother Rice would push their lead out in the second quarter, as star tailback Nolan Ray caught a screen pass and bolted to the end zone. Before halftime, Cole Lacanaria caught a post pattern, and he ran to the end zone to extend the lead to 20 points in favor of Brother Rice at halftime.
Xavi Bowman would score on a trick play in the third quarter, before Brother Rice tacked on another score. It was cruise control for the Warriors, as they completed their first shutout since October 2019 (51-0 v Detroit Cody).
Next week, Brother Rice will square off against U-D Jesuit. East Kentwood, now 0-2 on the young season, will begin OK Red play against the Rockford Rams.
