The Gladwin Flying G’s entered Friday night’s opener with one of their best teams in recent memory. On the contrary, Chippewa Hills starts 2021 with many unknowns and questions. These polar starting trends were evident throughout the 56-0 blowout win in favor of Gladwin.
At the eight minute mark in the first quarter, the Flying G’s got on the scoreboard. Logan Kokotovich capped off the drive with a 2-yard plunge, and Anna Seebeck booted the extra points. Just three minutes of gameplay later, Gladwin doubled their lead. Earl Esiline powered across the goal line from a yard out. Kokotovich reeled off a 30-yard run that moved Gladwin to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
Logan Kokotovich scored for the third time in the starting minutes of the second quarter. Nick Wheeler pushed the lead even quicker when he found Kaden McDonald on an 80-yard touchdown pass. With the running clock in effect, the Flying G’s would just hold serve at halftime, ahead 35-0.
On the opening kickoff of the third quarter, Earl Esiline weaved his way through the Chippewa Hills defense and into the endzone, an 85-yard kick return touchdown. Before the third quarter would end, Nick Wheeler broke free for a 47-yard touchdown run, moving the tally to 49-0 in favor of the Flying G’s.
In the final quarter, the lone touchdown came from Gladwin’s Brady Gehrett. Gehrett covered eight yards on his touchdown. Anna Seebeck was an underappreciated hero by hitting 8 extra point attempts.
Next week, Almost will face Pinconning. Chippewa Hills will hit the road, visiting Howard City and Tri-County.
