Wednesday was a busy day at the lanes around the Michigan Sports Radio coverage area. Below is a recap of the action:

BOYS BOWLING

Caledonia 21 def Jenison 9: The Fighting Scots got in the win column in their match against Jenison. Ayden Sulzener led the team with a 515 series (300-215).

 

East GR 18.5 def GR Christian 11.5: The Pioneers bested the Eagles, thanks in large part to a 10-0 Baker Games sweep. Corbin Olsson posted a 411 series (209-202) to spark the Pioneers. Joey Rauwerda posted a 419 series to lead GRC (220-199).

 

Forest Hills Eastern 25 def Ottawa Hills 5: The Hawks won for the first time this season with a strong Wednesday performance. After the Bengals won the first Baker Game by three pins, FHE won all but one point the remainder of the match. Jonah Whalen (281 series, 135-146) and Lance Koelzer (280 series, 136-144) posted the high scores for the Hawks. Ottawa Hills was led by Sherrod Raglin, who posted a 314 series (133-181) and captured their lone regular point.

 

Fruitport 15 tied Zeeland 15: The Trojans began their 2021 season with an draw against Zeeland. After falling behind, they played a much stronger second game to force a tie. Cameron Weaver led Fruitport with a 379 series (198-181), and Jray Conklin posted the individual game high with a 212 (358 series).

 

GR Catholic Central 18 def Wayland 12: The Cougars moved to 2-0, but not without a fight from Wayland. The teams split the two Baker Games, but GRCC took the total pins points. In the individual games, the Cougars outscored Wayland by four points to claim victory. David Shamblin led all bowlers with a 416 series (225-191), while he was joined in the 350+ series by Connor Wortman (361, 188-173) and David Sepulreda (354, 161-193). Mark Musgrave was Wayland’s top scorer (349, 148-201).

 

Hudsonville 24 def East Kentwood 6: There was history on the lanes for Hudsonville on Wednesday. For the first time ever, the program had a clean game. During the first regular game, the five bowlers recorded zero opens (see photo below). As a result, they posted a five-man total of 1156 pins to sweep the points and build a commanding lead. Three Eagles posted 400+ series in this victory: Ethan Blouw (481, 248-233), Brendan Unseld (439, 237-202) and JJ Swain (431, 239-192). Peyton VanKempen (227) and Jaxon Wicker (205) both broke 200 pins in an individual game.

 

Kenowa Hills 23 def South Christian 7: The Knights got their first win of 2021 with a strong showing against South Christian. Kenowa Hills swept both Baker Games, and won seven of ten individual matches. Luke Buck (383 series, 181-202) paced the team, while Zeke Dykstra (311, 144-167) joined him in the 300+ series club. Kevin Hur (329, 159-170) and Jackson Koster (306, 161-145) were the top performers for South Christian.

 

Middleville 23 def Cedar Springs 7: The Trojans moved to 2-0 with their win over Cedar Springs. Michael Willshire (501 series, 201-300) used his perfect second game to carry the Trojans. Wyatt Jacobson (477 series, 243-234) posted a strong performance for Middleville as well. Cody Marshall led Cedar Springs with a 389 series (200-189).

 

Mona Shores 29 def Allendale 1: The Sailors started 2021 with a boom, nearly sweeping the Falcons. Dylan Goryl was the high scorer and the high series scorer in this match, as the Sailors’ bowler posted a 376 (194-182). Caleb Leonard (357 series, 183-174), John Gemzer (311, 160-151) and Nathan Trowbridge (308, 159-149) also posted 300+ series.

 

Northview 23 def Lowell 7: The Wildcats started the season with a victory over Lowell. After splitting the Baker Games, Northview took nine of ten regular games to come out on top. Kyle Pranger led the Wildcats with a 450 series (226-224), while Dawson Dewitt posted a 365 series (185-180). Lucas Sloma was the top scorer for Lowell (303 series, 153-150).

 

Rockford 26 def Grandville 4: The Rams dominated the Bulldogs to move to 2-0 in conference play. They swept the Baker Games, including a thrilling 222-217 finish in the second game. Sam Colby (245) and Tony DeLuccia (244) posted the highest scores individually for Rockford.

 

Unity Christian 27 def Muskegon 3: The ‘Saders started the match against the Big Reds with a sweep of the Baker Games. Behind a 199 from Ryan Shinabery, they dominated the individual games to earn the victory.

 

GIRLS BOWLING

GR Catholic Central 16 def Wayland 14: The Cougars got out to an early lead over Wayland, and they had to hold off a late rally to secure an OK Gold victory. Madison Mainey led GRCC with a 339 series (178-161), while Kristen Hauk added a 318 series (149-169). Kadence Bottrall led all scorers, as she earned two points for Wayland with her 433 series (213-220).

 

GR Christian 28 def East GR 2: The Eagles started their season off with a strong victory against East Grand Rapids. They swept the Baker Games 185-97 and 110-104, and they never looked back.

 

Hudsonville 26 def East Kentwood 4: The Eagles won their second straight conference match in convincing fashion. EK got out to a 4-1 lead early in the Baker Games before Hudsonville rolled off twenty-five consecutive points. Bryanna Bentley led the way for Hudsonville with a 398 series (222, 176). Makenna Hendrickson (360 series, 192-168) turned in a strong performance as well. East Kentwood was led by Alayna Babcock (278 series, 142-136).

 

Kenowa Hills 22 def South Christian 8: The Knights got in the win column with a victory over South Christian. Kylie Lake posted the best scores for Kenowa Hills (125-90 series), while Lexi Westra led South Christian (273, 139-134).

 

Middleville 21 def Cedar Springs 9: The Trojans move to 2-0 on the season with a commanding victory over the Red Hawks. Carly Snyder (365 series, 206-159) and Dalace Jousma (164-160, 324 series) led Middleville. Chloe Fisk (395 series, 192-203) paced Cedar Springs with the top score.

 

Mona Shores 28 def Allendale 2: The Sailors faced a short-handed Allendale roster, and they won the match, despite the Falcons’ lone individual posting a solid performance. Maya Moore scored a 340 series (189-151) for Allendale. Riley Trygstad (300 series, 146-154) led the combined scoring for Mona Shores, while Payton Finklea (165) had the individual game high.

 

Northview 21 def Lowell 9: In their opening match, Northview topped Lowell. The two teams split the Baker Games and the ten individual games, but the Wildcats won all of the pin count points. Courtney Delaney (371 series, 221-150), Abby Ludwick (347 series, 159-188) and Julia Frey (336 series, 159-177) led the Wildcats. Courtney Witten (183) and Hayley Beers (180) posted Lowell’s top two individual game totals.

 

Rockford 17 def Grandville 13: These two teams split the Bakers, though Rockford’s pin total game them a narrow two-point edge. Grandville rallied in the first set of games to take a three point lead. Key performances from Emma Colby (211) and Emma Korhorn (187) sparked a comeback win for the Rams.

 

Unity Christian 28 def Muskegon 2: The ‘Saders had little trouble in their win over Muskegon. After a Baker Games sweep, they swept the Big Reds in the first set of individual games to create a 19-0 lead. Nat Mercer, a freshman, led Unity Christian with a 167. Dakota Murdough led all scorers with 199 pins in her best game.

 

Zeeland 23 def Fruitport 7: The Zeeland combined team moved to 2-0 with their second consecutive 23-7 victory. This match was narrow after the Baker Games, with Zeeland holding a 6-4 edge. They took off in the singles matches, to deliver a commanding win. Ellie Drenten posted Zeeland’s single game high (193), while Alyssa Fortney had a solid series (351, 172-179). Jessica Plichta (379 series, 229-150) and (Bryanna Hanson (329 series, 196-133) were the highlights for the Trojans.
