The Reed City Coyotes started the Division 5 playoffs as the top team in their district. They hosted Cheboygan, and the Chiefs came into this game winless. Though Cheboygan did find the end zone for the fourth game this fall, they were unable to keep up with the potent rushing attack of Reed City, as the Coyotes raced to a 44-6 win.
In the first quarter alone, Reed City racked up thirty points offensively. They added a touchdown in both the second and fourth quarters to extend their lead to the final margin.
Noah Jones led the way with 64 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Alex Wirgau added forty yards rushing and two touchdowns of his own. Landon Tomaski was the third power runner in this game, as he racked up the other rushing touchdown on twenty-two yards.
Tomaski made his presence felt on special teams as well, as he scored on a seventy-three yard punt return touchdown. This is Tomaski’s fourth return touchdown on the year (2 Kick Return, 2 Punt Return).
Defensively, Reed City limited the Chiefs to just 98 yards of total offense. Alex Wirgau and Eli Johnson each led the team with five tackles.
Coach Scott Shankel was happy to see his team get off to a good start and maintain focus throughout the game. He was pleased with the way that everyone did their job and remarked that everyone played well in all areas of the game.
The Coyotes will be back at home next week. They will host the winner of Saturday’s game between Kingsford and Ogemaw Heights.
