The Oakridge Eagles started their 2020 playoff journey as the home team in a matchup with the Chippewa Hills Warriors. Scoring the first forty points in this game set an easy course for a victory, winning the contest 40-6.

In the first quarter, Ethan Dailey started the scoring with a pass to Jacob Danicek. This forty-seven yard toss gave the Eagles an early 7-0 edge.

Ethan Dailey continued the scoring as the second quarter started. He broke off a long run of forty-three yards through the heart of the Warriors’ defense for a score. With thirty-two seconds left in the first half, Dailey and Braedyn Beattie paired up for an eight-yard touchdown. This gave Oakridge a commanding 21-0 halftime lead.

The second half offensively for Oakridge was the Corey Vanderputte show. The tailback scored a trio of touchdowns for the Eagles. First, he scored on a sixty-seven yard sprint to the end zone on the first play from scrimmage of the half. Three minutes later, he capped off another scoring drive with a three yard run. Finally, Vanderputte added a twenty-nine yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Gage Todd broke the scoreless drought for Chippewa Hills when he plunged across the goal line from three yards out. At 40-6, it was not nearly enough for the Warriors to mount a comeback.

Oakridge, as the #2 seed in their district, will host another game next week. They will welcome the winner of Saturday’s contest between #3 Big Rapids and #6 Newaygo to Muskegon for the battle next Friday or Saturday. That Big Rapids and Newaygo game will be LIVE on Michigan Sports Radio tomorrow.
