The Central Montcalm Hornets played their final regular season contest on Friday, facing the Hart Pirates. For the seventh week in a row, Central Montcalm secured a victory. Their 40-16 win was an excellent tune-up for the postseason.

In the first quarter, Anthony Schultz got the Hornets on the board with a 2-yard touchdown carry. Hart was able to respond early in the second quarter with a Kyle Greiner touchdown run, evening the score at 8.

On the ensuing drive, Central Montcalm found their way back to the end zone. McCoy Wernholm toted the ball across the goal line, another short 2-yard carry, and Central Montcalm posted their second consecutive two-point conversion. They took this 16-8 advantage into the locker room.

On the opening play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Anthony Schultz struck for an offensive outburst. He shot through the line, outracing the oncoming Pirates for a 55-yard touchdown run. Later in the third, Emmett Lingeman and Zayne Cooper paired up for a 46-yard scoring pass.

The icing on the cake for Central Montcalm came by way of defense late in the fourth quarter. Zane Cooper recorded his seventh interception of the season, returning the football 43 yards for a touchdown. This was the 19th interception the Hornets have hauled in this season.

With the victory, Central Montcalm finishes 8-1for the first time since 2010. They will learn their playoff foe on Sunday afternoon, and will set their sights on capturing their first playoff victory since 2009. Hart (4-5), will likely miss the postseason.
