The Grand Rapids Catholic Central Cougars and Holland Christian Maroons met in an OK Black battle. The 5-0 Maroons flexed their muscle early, before a strong finish gave Catholic Central a 42-18 win.
In the first quarter, just three points found their way on the scoreboard. Holland Christian star kicker Caden VanHuis booted a 43-yard field goal through the uprights with yardage to spare. This gave the Maroons an early 3-0 advantage.
Grand Rapids Catholic Central responded early in the second quarter with a pair of touchdown passes. Odin Spencer found Jami Williams twice, on touchdown completions of 26 and 27 yards to push the Cougars ahead 14-3. Holland Christian would close the margin back to four points before halftime, as Evan Abberger and Gabriel Konfara connected for a 20-yard score.
Coming out of the locker room, Grand Rapids Catholic Central looked determined. Coach Todd Kolster must have delivered one heck of a halftime speech, as the Cougars reeled off 28 unanswered points to pull away from the Maroons.
The duo of Spencer and Williams again was lethal, pairing up for two more touchdowns in the third quarter. These explosive scores were 22 and 38 yards, providing more explosive sparks for the Cougars’ offense. Kamall Hilliard and Cameron Maley used their legs for rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
With this win, GRCC advances to 5-1 on the season. They will take on Northview next Friday in another OK Black matchup. Holland Christian slides to 5-1, and they look to bounce back against Middleville.
