The Eagles of Oakridge took to the gridiron on Friday for a competitive battle with Belding. It was surprising to many that Oakridge secured a victory on Friday night that was this convincing, 30-8.
Oakridge raced out to a 14-0 lead. The first quarter saw Matt Danicek connect with Chris Knapp on a 27-yard touchdown pass. Seven seconds into the second quarter, Danicek used his legs for a short score.
Midway through the second frame, Belding got on the scoreboard. Jack Ward broke off a 9-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to six points. Trevor Jones would respond with a 3-yard touchdown carry that gave Oakridge a 22-8 halftime lead.
In the second half, Oakridge scored just one time. Jones carried for a 9-yard touchdown run. Danicek tossed the conversion pass.
Jones was the leading rusher for Oakridge with 150 yards on 21 carries. Matt Danicek completed 9/11 passes for 93 yards, and he added 80 rushing yards on 13 carries.
Next week, Oakridge will take on the winner of Saturday’s game between Kingsford and Gladwin.
