Portage Northern was feeling good after their upset of Byron Center last week. This Friday, the Huskies were taking on another tough for in East Lansing. The Trojans offense would just be too much, outlasting PN in a 34-24 win.
In the first quarter, East Lansing struck first. Jace Clarizio powered across the goal line to put the Trojans ahead by seven. XaVior Tyus responded with a 35-yard touchdown. A missed extra point left PN down a point, 7-6.
The second frame saw a strong display of football kickers. East Lansing got a pair of field goals, with Mitchell Roberts booting 22 and 27 yard field goals respectively. Avery Kucharski added a 20-yard boot. As a result, East Lansing took a 13-9 advantage to the locker room.
In the playoffs, the stars reveal themselves with big performances. Kanye Jackson was just that tonight for the Trojans, as he would add three touchdowns to the mix to secure the victory. Jackson had 131 yards rushing, and allowed East Lansing to take a 34-24 lead after three quarters of play. Portage Northern got a pair of touchdown runs, on carries from Cane Mack and Tyus.
Next week, East Lansing will travel to Grand Rapids to face Forest Hills Central. The Rangers defeated Mona Shores on Friday.
