The Manistee Chippewas opened their 2022 playoff campaign against Boyne City on Friday night. It was a close battle, with the Chippewas emerging victorious 28-27.

In the first quarter, the Ramblers took a 7-6 lead. Manistee countered with a 14-7 second half advantage to take a 20-13 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter went the way of Manistee, by a narrow 8-7 advantage. In the fourth quarter, Boyne City scored a touchdown to draw within a point, but their conversion attempt failed.

Isaiah Davis led the rushing attack with 102 yards on 14 carries. Nick Hornkohl added 54 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

Jeff Huber and Kaden Kott each tossed for a touchdown. Both completions were the only successful passing plays for Manistee, as they found Kanon Petzak for two scores.

Defensively, Braydon Sorenson led the Chippewas with 12 tackles. Isaiah Davis added 9 tackles while Carter Fredericks, Brian McNeil and Caius Johns each added 7 tackles.

Next week, Manistee will play in the District Finals. If Gladstone wins on Saturday against Elk Rapids, the Chippewas will hit the road. If the Elks score an upset, Manistee will host a playoff game.
