The East Kentwood Falcons and Grand Haven Buccaneers both entered their OK Red opener with a 1-1 record. With a tough slate ahead, it was a chance for both teams to capture an important victory in their pursuit of the postseason. East Kentwood took that step, soaring to a 42-0 victory.

Stellan Bowman got the Falcons started with a 40-yard touchdown run. After a surprise onside kick and recovery, Bowman added a 27-yard score to give East Kentwood a 14-0 advantage.

The second quarter saw more of Bowman, as he shot through the Bucs’ defense on an 82-yard sprint to the end zone. He capped off the first half with a fourth touchdown run. This gave the Falcons a 28-0 lead as they went to the locker room.

East Kentwood would tack on two more scores, giving Coach Tony Kimbrough’s Falcons their biggest margin of victory since 2019. The Falcons, now 2-1, have been a surprise to many in West Michigan with a victory over Brother Rice and a one-score loss against Muskegon. Next week, they will take on Jenison. Grand Haven, now 1-2, gets the luxury of facing three-time defending OK Red champion Rockford next week.
