The Fennville Blackhawks entered this Saturday’s game coming off a Homecoming victory against Gobles. This week, they took on Marcellus, and their hot play continued. They were able to capture a 38-27 victory, moving their record to 2-3 and 2-2 in the SWMFL-I.
It was an all-around team victory. Fennville Head Coach Richard Roth stated after the game that “we executed our game plan well. Kudos to our guys getting prepped and playing well against an opponent who was 3-1 coming in.”
Ben Peterson had another strong game at quarterback for the Blackhawks. He finished 12/22 for 208 yards and four touchdowns. He also turned 9 carries into 109 yards and a fifth score. On defense, Peterson posted 11 tackles.
Dylan Schut had 87 all-purpose yards (46 rushing and 41 receiving) with a touchdown. Schut was even more dynamic on defense, leading the team with 16 tackles, two for loss. Tyler Schut had 122 receiving yards on five catches, scoring three times. He added 11 tackles. Aiden Swingle joined the Schut duo in double-digit tackles with 13.
Fennville will now take on Bloomingdale next week. The Cardinals are 1-4 with only a forfeit win, and they are coming off a 62-0 loss to Martin. Marcellus slides to 3-2, as they suffer their first SWMFL-I loss. Next week, the Wildcats will take on Mendon.
