The “Battle of the Buzz” took place on Friday night as the Bridgman Bees and Concord Yellow Jackets squared off. Bridgman packed all of the sting in this battle, scoring all 51 points in the first half of a 51-0 victory.
Bridgman outgained Concord in this game 307-182. In addition to that yardage discrepancy, Bridgman scored twice without their offense stepping on the field. In the first quarter, they had an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown, and Clark Smith reeled off a 37-yard interception return for a score.
Nate Necas spearheaded the Bridgman rushing attack. He turned 12 carries into 124 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion. Clark Smith, who had that interception return, also rushed for 39 yards.
In defeat, Tyler Carpenter finished 15/26 passing for 68 yards. Carpenter also led Concord in rushing with 16 carries for 68 yards. Mekhi Wingfield paced the receiving corps with 11 catches for 63 yards, and he also had an interception on defense. Brian Helms also had a highlight reel play when he recovered a fumble.
Next week, Concord returns to Tri-River play against Maple Valley. Bridgman will take on Mendon.
