Holton 49 Morley Stanwood 37: Holton led by double digits late in the first half, but Morley Stanwood took the lead 30-28 early in the fourth quarter. Aidan Poling led Holton with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists, while Carter Brant added 9 points on three triples. Carter Veldkamp paced the Mohawks with 13 points in the defeat.

Montague 47 Hart 39: The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter, and held on after a strong second half by the Pirates. Drew Collins led Montague with 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Isaiah Atchison added 1o points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Parker Hovey was the leading scorer for Hart with thirteen points. Coach David Osborne afterwards described the game as “A tale of two halves tonight. We played well early and Hart played well in the second half. They were definitely more aggressive than us in the second half. I am happy to get this season started with a win.”

Orchard View 54 Ludington 46: The Cardinals topped the Orioles in a Lakes Eight “Battle of the Birds”. Ke’ontae Barnes (17) and Larry Brewer III (14) were the Orchard View pair that finished in double figures. Darius Williams had 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.

Frankenmuth 53 Flushing 29: The Eagles started 2021 with a win over the Raiders. Frankenmuth led 13-2 after the first quarter, and they never let the lead go. Emma Kerkau (12) and Zoey Persails (10) finished in double figures for the winning Eagles.

Mona Shores 62 Union 50: The Sailors won their opener against Union on Tuesday night after outscoring the Red Hawks 26-5 in the second quarter. Riley Rosenthal (15), Brooke LeRoux (14) and Bri Wade (12) finished in double figures for Mona Shores.

Newaygo 49 Central Montcalm 32: The Lions captured a victory in their 2021 opener, besting Central Montcalm by seventeen. Newaygo was ahead seven at the break, and they pulled away throughout the second half. Jaxi Long was the Lions’ best performer, with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Bailey Vissman led Central Montcalm with 18 points as well. Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma afterwards said he was “really happy with the effort tonight. With only one full contact practice before our first game, I thought we did as well as we could. Central Montcalm is a good, well-coached basketball team, so it was a good victory for us.”
Ravenna 36 Oakridge 29: The Bulldogs took down the Eagles in both team’s opener on Tuesday night. Madeline Kilbourne led Ravenna with 14 points, while Emily Crowley chipped in 8. Oakridge held a 16-7 halftime lead before Ravenna used a 16-2 third quarter to propel themselves to victory.
