The Freeland Falcons took one on the chin in their opener against a tough Frankenmuth team. This week, they hosted Alma in a game between two 0-1 clubs. In a game full of thrills and key plays, the Falcons got in the win column by the narrow score of 14-10.

Alma struck first in this one as David Apple ran in a touchdown from eleven yards out. This score was set up by a short field that resulted from a fumble by Freeland. Garret Pistro was able to get the Falcons back square with Alma when he ran six yards to the end zone to cap off a seven-play touchdown drive. The game’s first quarter concluded with a 7-7 tie.

In the second quarter, Freeland scored to take the lead. Easton Armstrong completed a halfback pass to Alex Duley for forty three yards to move the Falcons all the way down to the one yard line. Pistro capped off the drive with a one-yard plunge.

Alma brought the score within four points when Mason Stambaugh booted a thirty-one yard field goal. The Panthers got the ball back and they embarked on a nineteen play drive. They took over eight minutes off the clock, but they were unable to come away with any points. Freeland had just under eight minutes to go when they got the football back, and they ran out the clock to secure the win. Coach Townsend rolled the dice on a crucial fourth down, and the team converted on a pass from Bryson Huckeby to Alex Duley. With just over a minute to go when the conversion happened, Freeland was able to run out the clock.

At 1-1, Freeland will look to improve their record on the road against Birch Run. This game will be broadcast LIVE on Michigan Sports Radio. The Panthers will host Bridgeport next week in search of their first win of 2020.
