After opening conference play with a 27-14 win last week at West Ottawa, the Grandville Bulldogs were back on the road this week, where they would be able to lean on defense for a gritty 28-7 win over Caledonia with the final 3+ quarters featuring the Scots mustering limited ball movement after a strong first drive to the game.

The story of the game, though, came on the first drive where Grandville all-state senior RB Jayden Terry would suffer an apparent knee injury on a dive toward the goal line after awkwardly getting caught up in a pile. Terry would not return to the game and would appear on crutches in the second half.

DJ Hardiman would move from FB to Terry’s spot at RB, as sophomore Orin Kuyoc would take the FB touches with Hardiman’s move into the new role. The Bulldogs would still find the end zone on that first drive with Braylen Haney’s first of three scores from the other RB spot in the T.

Down 7-0 the Scots would answer, as a 48 yard  jet-sweep run to junior WR Aaron Collins would set up a Ryne Wysocki 4 yard score to even it a 7-0.

It would be all ‘Dawgs the rest of the way as their defense would smother the Scots to 152 total yards of offense on the night, DJ Hardiman would have the highlight of the evening at the end of the 1st quarter has he bounced off defenders for a weaving 29 yard score – 14-7 Grandville after one.

Another Haney score would make it 20-7 after a missed XP to go into the break for Grandville.

Both teams would play ball control in the third with a pair of longer drives resulting in no points, before Grandville would turn a short field into a score in the 4th with Haney’s third of the night, 28-7 after successful 2-point-try on a QB keeper from Jeffrey Fogelsonger.

Breckin Mann would ice the game with an INT off senior QB Andrew Hanna (who came in late to spell sophomore starter Conlan Schultz) for Grandville as the Bulldogs advance to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in the OK-Red. Caledonia is now 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the Red.

Grandville would end the night with 288 yards of total offense, all of it on the ground.
