Grand Rapids Catholic Central continued its unique non-conference slate with a trip to the middle of the state, as they faced state power Jackson Lumen Christi. A strong start early would prove to be the difference, as two first quarter touchdowns led the Cougars to a 28-14 win.

Midway through the opening frame, Odin Spencer got the scoring started with a 22-yard pass to Dean Armock. In the closing minute of the first quarter, Spencer scrambled free for a 19-yard touchdown scamper. This gave GRCC an early 14-0 edge.

Jackson Lumen Christi would respond, as Benny Gaston found Wes Learned on a 35-yard touchdown toss two minutes into the second quarter. GRCC would answer with an 8-yard carry from Dale Gant Jr. With just seven seconds left in the first half, Lumen Christi found the end zone again, as Gaston found Sean Walicki on a 4-yard dart. At the break, the Cougars took their 21-14 lead to the locker room.

In the second half, it was a stellar performance by both defenses. The Cougars got some key stops, keeping the Titans off of the scoreboard. Lumen Christi also made some big plays, but GRCC was able to ice it with a late fourth quarter score. With just under two minutes to go, Odin Spencer returned to the end zone with a 24-yard carry, sealing the win for the Cougars.

The victors outgained their opponent 337-226 in this contest. Odin Spencer finished with 31 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns in this win, an impressive showing from the sophomore quarterback. The ground game was the difference, as GRCC outgained JLC 268-63 when carrying the football.

With the win, GRCC moves to 3-0 for the first time since 2022. They will begin OK Black play next week, as they take on longtime rival East Grand Rapids. Jackson Lumen Christi slides to 1-2. Next week, the Titans begin Catholic League play against UD Jesuit.
