The final games before the playoff seeding for the boys tournament locks in, and games that will decide conference title races across west Michigan are LIVE on MSR Friday night, let’s take a quick look at the big matchups you can tune into on February 14…
FHC vs SOUTH CHRISTIAN (Girls+Boys): The streaking Sailors have moved into the top 5 in our power poll for the girls and boys, and will looking to further improve upon that with a pair of tough matchups against the Rangers Friday. The boys game in particular brings a ton of intrigue, as the Rangers fell on a buzzer beater to GRCC Tuesday and now will look for their revenge vs our #5 ranked Sailors – Both of these teams can really score the ball with a variety of weapons, the Rangers ability to neutralize Carson Vis will be the big factor here.
ROCKFORD vs GRANDVILLE (Girls+Boys): Rockford holds the top ranked team for both the girls and the boys in our Power Poll again this week. The Rockford girls maintained their top in the state with a good win over Hudsonville Tuesday while Grandville ended a winning streak with a big loss to Grand Haven and now look to bounce back.
The Rockford boys fell for only the second time all season Tuesday to Hudsonville while Grandville lost their second straight game in the closing seconds after they seemed to have a comeback win sorted vs Grand Haven – It’s a big chance for both teams to bounce back, the Bulldogs were within a score at the half last time against the Rams and will look to do it for a full 32 Friday night.
COOPERSVILLE vs LOWELL (Boys): The Broncos boys are back in action after they picked up a win Tuesday over Cedar Springs that handed coach Pete VanKempen the 200th win of his great career. The Broncos look to extend that win to a 2 game streak as they battle 4-15 Lowell, who they beat by 11 in their first meeting a little over a week ago.
CHIPPEWA HILLS vs TRI COUNTY (Girls+Boys): It’s a conference DH in the CSAA Red, as both sides look to build some momentum for the playoffs and help their stock before the fast approaching playoff rankings come out.
GR CATHOLIC CENTRAL vs EGR (Girls+Boys): A really good DH from the OK White, first the GRCC girls sit at a perfect 7-0 in the league, but EGR is just 2 games back and looking to make a late push. Then, the GRCC boys look to follow up a buzzer beater win Tuesday with another conference win over the upset-minded Pioneers and stay perfect in the league themselves.
FOWLER vs CENTRAL MONTCALM (Girls): The 8-7 Hornets girls will have one of their toughest tests of the season as they draw 13-2 (and one of the state’s top teams in D4) Fowler on Friday night. Central have won 4 straight and are playing some of their best hoops of the season as they look for the statement win!
