We’re right around the half way point of the season, and now are starting to see conference title races and the fight for playoff positioning starting to heat up as we move into the final weeks of January. In this week’s rebound we’ll take a look at our newest Power Polls on the boys and girls sides and break down some of the movement there. And, we’ll take a look at some of the big time matchups you can expect to see tomorrow on MSR!
RE/MAX UNITED POWER POLL – 1/20
BOYS
BOYS POWER POLL NOTES
1) Rockford – The Rams picked up big wins in a thriller over Hudsonville at home and then ran away against Grandville on the road to stay perfect in the OK Red and stay at the top of the standings.
2/3) Unity Christian/Muskegon – The ‘Saders and Big Reds flipped spots this week, as UC was able to stay at just one loss on the year, Muskegon’s loss this week was to state power Warren Lincoln – So we continue to really split hairs at the top of the heap
8/10) Greenville + Grant – The Yellow Jackets are still perfect and moved up a spot this week as there were some other shifts around them – Grant also still remains perfect and holding down the 10 spot in the rankings
9) South Christian – The Sailors have moved into the top 10 this week as FHC dropped out, SC continues to win and will have some big games in the coming weeks for Carson Vis & co. to quickly move toward the top 5 and beyond.
RV) I’ll have my eye on Tri-Unity Christian and legendary coach Mark Keeler to keep winning vs a tough schedule and shortly be in a spot to move into the top 10 – But, the tough schedules and resumes for FHC and GR Christian with the likes of HC building a strong resume all are also in a spot to move in at out next shakeup.
GIRLS
GIRLS POWER POLL NOTES
1) Rockford – Much like the boys poll, the top is the same here and seems even less likely to move for a while – The rams had a pair of big wins over Hudsonville and Grandville last week. They’ll see a pair of rebuilding teams that were each regional finalists last year – Byron Center and West Ottawa – this week.
3/4) Grand haven + FHN – A GH vs FHN head-to-head solidified their spots in the rankings here last week as Grand Haven picked up a 51-37 win over the Huskies on Tuesday
5) Holland Christian – The Maroons were one of our biggest movers of the week out of a very crowded and tight 5-10 rankings that certainly will continue to shake up a lot. HC beat #7 Zeeland East and a good Spring lake team last week to move up a few spots from #8.
The Rest) As I just noted – This group is incredibly tight and almost any rankings and order would be fair – The Chix continue to be an interesting team to watch as former EGR coach Troy Hammond has already won 4 more games this year than last season with the Chix and will have a couple weeks of a chance to pick up some consecutive wins before they travel to Holland Christian on February 11 for what might be a near top 5 clash by then.
