The South Christian Sailors began their postseason against Holland Christian on Friday. After two straight trips to Ford Field, the Sailors had their worst regular season in five years with a 5-4 campaign. They took on a Maroons team that entered the playoffs on the other end of the spectrum, a 6-3 mark that was the program’s best since 2018. Ultimately, the playoff experience of South Christian, especially Carson Vis, proved to be too much in a 35-7 Sailors victory.

The first 28 points in this game were scored by South Christian, and whether through the air or on the ground, Carson Vis played a key role in each of those scoring plays.

South Christian struck first when Vis found Tyler Brinks on a 38-yard touchdown pass. This was set up after the Sailors recovered a Maroons’ fumble. In the second quarter, they used an interception to set up a 5-yard quarterback keeper for Vis.

Ahead 14-0 at the break, the Sailors doubled their lead in the third stanza. Both scores came from the legs of Carson Vis, as carries of 6 and 43 yards respectively gave South Christian a 28-0 advantage.

Finally, in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, was Holland Christian able to find the scoring column. Evan Abberger and Josh Bruxvoort paired up for a 2-yard toss to conclude an impressive 15-play, 76-yard touchdown march.

South Christian finished the scoring with another touchdown run, lifting them to next week’s District Finals. Carson Vis finished 8/12 passing for 82 yards and touchdown, but his impact was more drastically felt on the ground, turning 13 carries into 133 yards and three scores.

Next week, South Christian will face Unity Christian. Their longtime rivals already came away with a 50-21 victory in their Week 7 meeting. The ‘Saders began their playoff journey with a 63-20 win over Hamilton.
