For the third straight season, Tri-County begins with a perfect 3-0 mark. They achieved this feat after dominating Morley-Stanwood 48-14 on Friday evening.
Nakarrion Lee got the Mohawks on the board early, as the junior powered across the goal line from a yard out. This would be the lone Morley score of the quarter, as Tri-County answered with a pair. Vaughn Veltman and Bryce Reed linked up for the first score, a 9-yard touchdown pass. Later in the frame, Reed used his legs for a 28-yard sprint to the end zone.
Trailing 14-6, the Mohawks responded. Isaiah Kukia carried the football four yards across the goal line, and a successful two-point pass evened the score at 14. Though momentum appeared briefly on Morley-Stanwood’s side, they would fail to find the end zone again. A twenty yard touchdown pass from Veltman to Jayden Button gave the Vikings a 20-14 halftime edge.
In the second half, it was all Tri-County. On four separate drive, the Vikings’ ball carriers broke off runs to put the victors in the end zone. Cade Hallman scored twice, on runs of 15 and 36 yards. Chase Keller (4 yards) and Bryce Reed (70 yards) rounded out the scoring.
With their 3-0 mark, Tri-County will resume CSAA league play next week. On their schedule is Newaygo, who is 3-0 for the first time in a decade. It should be an epic battle for supremacy atop the league standings, broadcast LIVE on MSR.
