Tri-County visited nearby Grant for their annual rivalry showdown. This was first-year coach Gabe Lowry’s first taste of the series, and his Tigers got pummeled. From the start, Tri-County got things rolling on their way to a 56-6 victory.
On their opening drive, the Vikings got a 5-yard touchdown run from Bryce Reed. They added a two-point conversion pass, leading 8-0. Grant would respond, using their Wing-T to deceive and weave down the field. Rory Fish, the Tigers’ quarterback, would score the lone touchdown on a 1-yard plunge. Their failed conversion left them behind 8-6, the score that would remain into the second quarter.
In the second stanza, Tri-County reeled off four touchdowns to create a 36-6 advantage. The first two scores came from Vaughn Veltman, who crossed the goal line twice from four yards out. Veltman would then take to the air for the next score, finding Jayden Button on a 13-yard toss. Finally, after sophomore Grayson Butler intercepted a Tigers’ pass, he raced 42 yards to the end zone for a touchdown. He followed up an interception on Grant’s preceding drive by Cade Hallman.
After halftime, Tri-County tacked on three additional touchdowns. Chase Keller got things started with a 4-yard run. That was followed up by Wilson Sixbury, who covered 16 yards on his trip to the end zone. Finally, Grayson Butler reeled off a 33-yard carry to give Tri-County its final advantage, a 56-6 victory.
Now 2-0 on the season, Tri-County will face Morley-Stanwood next week. Grant, even at 1-1 on the season, will square off with Newaygo next Friday.
