The Conference season rolls on with another packed night of coverage on MI Sports Radio, including coverage of the debut of Tuesday night girls/boys doubleheaders in the OK-Red.

Top-5 Girls Showdown

That coverage will be led off by our Brock Konkle in Rockford, where the 5:30pm tip-off for the Rockford and Grand Haven girls provides one of the biggest games in the state, this year, in girls basketball. The Rams – reigning D1 state champs, looking for a 3rd straight trip to the Breslin Center are a dominant 7-0 and the #1 ranked team in the most recent BCAM poll for D1.

Grand Haven’s Lady Buccaneers visit with an equally impressive start to ‘23-24. GH sits at 8-0 on the young season and is the #5 ranked team in this week’s coaches poll. It’s an early season game, not just to help decide the fate of maybe the state’s toughest girls baseball conference (the OK-Red), but also massive for momentum and testing your mettle for two teams each with state titles in mind for this season.

OK-Red Double Headers

The OK-Red is helping debut new girls/boys doubleheaders on Tuesdays to go along with the classic Friday twin-billings. Girls games are set to begin at 5:30pm with boys to follow at approximately 7:00pm.

We have a couple of those DHs covered on MSR. First, the earlier discussed GH/Rockford girls showdown followed by an intriguing boys matchup, as Rockford looks for a fourth win in-a-row and Grand Haven looks to get back in the win column after dropping their league-opener to Hudsonville.

In West Ottawa, George Washington University committed Gabby Reynolds and West Ottawa first host a Grandville team that jettisoned the Panthers in an upset from the first round of districts last year. The Bulldogs girls are coming off a one-point OT loss to Jenison at home last Friday. The Boys game features the Panthers looking to end a two-game slide vs. a Grandville boys squad playing among the best in the area as of late, after a 31-point win over Jenison Friday and then a showcase win at Grand Blanc vs. the showcase host 57-44 Saturday night – Where Grandville Sr Center Cam Regnerus put up 15 points, 12 rebounds and 13 blocks in the cross-state win vs. Grandville HC Desmond Young’s alma mater.

GRCC Rolls on

After picking up the big-time win over OK-Gold (and state title) rival South Christian on Friday night, the Cougars of CC are back at it on MSR. The ‘Cougs are back on the road as they travel to Thornapple-Kellogg, where the Trojans are 5-4 overall and coming off a conference-play-opening-win on Friday over Forest Hills Eastern. It will be an interesting Tuesday test coming off a big win vs. a T.K. squad solid returning talent that will be looking to play spoiler and take what would be the top spot in the league standings.

Outside the OK

Outside of the OK-Conference, we’ve got more action to keep your eyes on, Central Montclm’s boys are back in action – As the Hornets look to snap a four-game losing skid vs. Harrison. Harrison has lost two-in-a-row  coming into this game, and will be just as hungry as CM to get back on track.

The Vikings of Tri-County have dropped eight-straight after winning their season-opener, they host Byron Center’s Zion Christian, who sit at 5-3 on the year and will provide a tough test for the Vikings, who have dropped several really tight contests in their losing streak and can turn things around in a big win with a potential upset here.

Check out the action all night long on MSR, and be sure to check back in here Friday, as we’ll preview and then have some really big time games across West Michigan – Including doubleheaders from Hudsonville/East Kentwood, Grandville/Rockford, and Zeeland East/Zeeland West.
