Gladwin was able to get back to their winning ways in week eight, defeating Beaverton, 50-0. Nothing less would be expected for a program that has become dominant. Each week, Gladwin can put teams away in a hurry. This week, unfortunately, that shoe would be on the other foot.
The visiting Frankenmuth Eagles would strike first on the night after an 8-yard touchdown run. This gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead and that’s where things would stand after one quarter of play.
Frankenmuth would grab a little more life by adding a 15-yard run to make it a 14-0 game. Things really started to build for the Eagles as they seized control of the game on a 58-yard pass shortly after. This made it a Frankenmuth 21-0 game. The Eagles would head into the locker room with all the momentum after a 30-yard field goal that would give the Eagles a 24-0 lead after one half of play.
The Gladwin defense would settle in a bit in the third quarter but their offense really struggled on this night. The Frankenmuth offense would grab a 19-yard rushing touchdown to pick up the first score of the half. This gave the Eagles a 31-0 lead. They would cap it off and show it would be all their night tonight. A 93-yard rushing touchdown would seal the deal. Frankenmuth knocks off Gladwin in the final regular season game, 38-0.
Frankenmuth came out strong and never look back in this one. There might not be a hotter team in the state at the moment as the Eagles have now won 8 games in a row. Aside from week one, the Eagles offense has done nothing but pile up big numbers all year. That showed again tonight as they went for nearly 400 yards rushing on a tough Gladwin defense. Frankenmuth begins what they hope as another long playoff journey next week.
It was another tough one for Gladwin tonight. There’s not many nights where things don’t go their way and it just didn’t tonight. For a program that knows how to bounce back, you can expect to see that next week come district time. It was a struggle for not only the defense tonight but the offense had their share as well. Gladwin would be forced into 3 turnovers and limited to just 36 total yards on the night against a stout Eagles defense. Expect to see a completely different Gladwin team that hopes to make another deep playoff run when they open district play next week.
