It couldn’t have been a better start for the Zeeland West Dux in their week one win over Lakeshore. Now facing a Red Hawks team from Cedar Springs that gave East Grand Rapids everything they could handle, they knew the task in week two wouldn’t be an easy one.

West bounced on top first midway through the first quarter when Trenton Bolhouse found Trey Sloothaak from 25-yards out to give the Dux a 8-0 lead after the successful two-point conversion. Cedar Springs would hang around in this one as that’s where things would stand after one.

The Dux would give themselves a little more breathing room early in the second quarter when Rolando Robelin broke free for a 20-yard rushing touchdown. The PAT was no good, but it was West holding a 14-0 lead to that point. Not long after, it would be all-stater Parker Holman finding some space for a 16-yard rushing touchdown. It was a half dominated by West as they cruised into the locker room with a 22-0 lead.

Both defenses would pitch shutouts until late in the third quarter. Robelin would find the endzone again, this time punching it in from 1-yard away. The Red Hawks couldn’t get anything started offensively as West took a 28-0 lead into the final quarter of play.

Parker Holman wasn’t done on the night as he would break free for the biggest play of the night on a 61-yard touchdown scamper. West would find themselves leading to that point, 36-0. Cedar Springs would find the endzone late, however. The Red Hawks finally found their way into the scoring column on a Noah Mallory 41-yard touchdown run. It was just a little too late here as West goes on to win, 36-7.

Dylan Lafontsee led Cedar Springs with 59-yards rushing. Rolando Robelin had a big night running the ball as he went for 72 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns. Parker Holman had himself a big night with 116 yards rushing on just 10 carries.

Cedar Springs looks to grab their first win next week when they take on Thornapple Kellogg in what should be a tightly contested matchup. The Red Hawks have show some signs, but just couldn’t get it done as West would wear on them for much of the night. It’s a team whose defense can keep them in games but they will need to get their offense going to be able to compete for much of the year.

West dominates for another week, and they will look to do the same when they take on a Wyoming team who is going through it to begin the season. The Dux seem to have everything clicking right now and they have a chance to put up another impressive week when they take on the Wolves next Friday night.
