1/16/23

  • North Muskegon defeated Wyoming Potter’s House Christian, 42-36. Troy McManus led the Norse with 12 points. Quincy Winkle helped keep the Pumas in it with 15 points on the night. North Muskegon improves to 7-2 on the season. Potters House falls to 3-7.

1/17/23

  • Big Rapids defeated Clare, 65-53. The Cardinals improve to 6-1 on the season as the Pioneers fall to 3-7.
  • Byron Center dropped a tough one to Covenant Christian, 50-59. The loss moves the Bulldogs to 5-4 on the season. A monumental win for the Chargers as they improve to 6-5 on the season.
  • Calvin Christian beat Comstock Park, 79-38. The Squires continue their great season as they move to 9-1. The Panthers will look to see if they can get back on track, they fall to 4-4 on the season.
  • Coloma picked up a win over Gobles, 44-34. The win gives the Comets their first of the season. The Tigers will look to grab their first when they take on Galesburg-Augusta on Friday.
  • Coopersville picked up a big win over West Catholic, 48-27.
  • East Kentwood came back from 13 points down to pull out a thrilling win over Grand Haven, 65-56. The win puts the Falcons at 7-2 on the season. Marshaun Flakes (21 points) and Jah Hatchett (19 points) led East Kentwood. Darryl Thompkins added 11. The Bucs drop their first game of the season, they’ll look to get back on track against a tough Coopersville team on Friday.
  • Godwin Heights beat Belding, 70-39. The win improved the Wolverines to 5-1 on the season. The Black Knights would fall to 2-7.
  • Grand Rapids Catholic Central hosted Wayland Tuesday night, and it turned into a big game from Phat Phat Brooks. The 1st quarter was filled with offense from both sides, after one the Cougars led 20-18. The 2nd quarter saw the Cougars step up defensively but kept firing from all parts of the floor. At the half Catholic Central led Wayland, 44-30. The 2nd half was all Cougars. The Wildcats thought they had something in the 3rd quarter but the power of GRCC powered them to a 90-77 win. Phat Phat Brooks led the way with 43 points and his running mate, KK Brown finished with 25. Wayland was led by Brett Bultsma with 25 points and Elijah Moss with 22 points.   • Grand Rapids South Christian beat Kenowa Hills, 64-34. The Sailors are off to a hot start on the season as they now sit at 8-2. Jake DeHaan (16 points) and Jake Vermaas (15 points) were big for South Christian.Carson Vis added 14. The Knights fall to 4-4.
  • Grandville pulled off a big win over cross-town rival Hudsonville, 54-43. Cam Regnerus led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 points on the night. Tyson Mann was big with 14 points. Brayden Szamrej led the Eagles with 11 points. Grandville shifts focus to Friday night when they take on Grand Haven in what should be a must see game.
  • Grant defeated Ravenna, 75-55. The Bulldogs would get off to a slow start and were never able to recover. Hunter Hogans led Ravenna with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists,and 3 steals. Caleb Forsythe added 12 points.
  • Hopkins grabbed a win over Wyoming Kelloggsville, 48-33. The win moved the Bulldogs to 7-5 on the season.
  • Hudsonville Unity Christian beat Spring Lake, 65-46. The win moves the Crusaders to 4-5 on the season ending a 2-game losing streak. Spring Lake falls to 4-3 ending their 2-game win streak. They’ll look to bounce back when they take on a very good Hamilton team on Friday.
  • Kalamazoo Central picked up a home win over Stevenville Lakeshore, 49-25. Central was off and running in this one as they held a 25-10 lead at the half. Wayne State commit Hutch Ward put together a big effort dropping 22 points on the night. The Maroon Giants remain undefeated on the season but will have a tough battle in their next game when they take on Battle Creek Central on Thursday night.
  • Kalamazoo Christian made their way to Muskegon and pulled out a win over Western Michigan Christian, 50-45. In a tight battle, the Comets were able to be the aggressor to hold on. They move to 5-3 on the season and will take on a tough Schoolcraft team on Friday.
  • Kent City put together a solid win over Wellspring Prep, 76-60. Jaret Jaramillo (18 points) and Seth Vanderwest (15 points) led the Eagles, respectively. Will Harrison added 14 points and Kyler Larson pitched in 10 points. Kent City improves to 4-3 on the season and will take on a tough Reed City team on Friday. The Wolves fall to 1-5.
  • Lawton picked up a win over Dowagiac, 47-39. Luke Leighton finished with 14 points on the night while Parker VanPeteghem added 13. The Blue Devils face a tough Parchment team on Friday night.
  • Loy Norrix lost in OT to Portage Central, 56-61. The Knights were shorthanded in the game but nearly pulled out the win. James Rocco (14 points), Taveon Vaughn (13 points) and Devin Knight (10 points) led Loy Norrix. Alex Beechnau had a big night for the Mustangs with 37 points on the night.
  • Mattawan beat Battle Creek Central, 62-56. In a tight game throughout, Noah Vanlaningham had a big night for the Wildcats leading them with 21 points. Ryan Kiesling added 10 points.
  • Montague picked up a win over Manistee, 67-35. The Wildcats now sit at 5-5 on the season. Braeden Johnston had a big night for Montague with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 2 steals. Owen Raeth added 13 points. Paul Olson pitched in 10. The Wildcats won the rebounding battle 54-33.
  • North Muskegon knocked off Holton, 58-14. There was never a doubt in this one as the Norse got off to a solid 1st half. Sam Gallo (13 point), Jaxon Lisinski (12 points) and Troy McManus (10 points) were all big for North Muskegon. Brodrick Fialek led the Red Devils with 10 points.
  • NorthPointe Christian picked up a tight win over Sparta, 53-52. The Mustangs were down two starters in the game but were able to pull out a gutsy win. Kayden Bird had a huge night to lead the way with 29 points and 9 rebounds. NorthPointe is off to a solid start in conference play as they now sit at 3-1.
  • Ottawa Hills pulled off a thriller over Forest hills Eastern, 56-54. Shamon Jarrett would put in the buzzer beater on a rebound put-back. Quadir Hatchett (21 points) and Isaiah Bradford (17 points) led the Bengals for the comeback win as they were down 11 points at one point in the 4th.
  • Parchment picked up a road win at Berrien Springs, 45-43. The Panthers held a solid 30-18 lead at the half but the Shamrocks wouldn’t make it easy. Jalen Kampen (14 points), Darius Baker (12 points) and Aaron Jasiak (10 points) led the way for Parchment who improves to 6-4 on the season. Blake Smith was big on the boards for the Panthers with 7. Berrien Springs falls to 4-4 with the loss.
  • Reeths-Puffer pulled off an impressive win over Zeeland East, 50-42. Jaxson Whitaker (12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals) and Travis Ambrose (19 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks) were big on the night to lead the Rockets. B.J. Walker was big for the Chix with 25 points and 7 rebounds on the night. Layne Risdon added 12 points.
  • Rockford and Jenison faced off in a conference game on Tuesday. Rockford was the favorite coming into the game, but Jenison held tight with them in the first 8-minutes, Rams 13, Wildcats 11. The 2nd quarter saw Jenison adding 11 more to their total with Rockford slowly start to pull away but still keep it interesting. At the half Rockford led 27-22. The start of the 2nd half showed a new Rams team, they came out with energy and excitement on both sides of the floor. The Wildcats got held to 7 points in the quarter, while Rockford put up 20. Rockford leading 47-29 after 3. An uneventful 4th quarter ended with a Rams win, 55-38. Rockford had two scorers with 12 points, Caden Pokorzynski and Andrew Landis.   • Tri Unity Christian picked up a 64-29 win over Muskegon Catholic Central. The Defenders held a 35-16 lead at the half and continued that dominance in the 2nd half. They would force the Crusaders into 25 turnovers on the night.
  • West Ottawa defeated Caledonia, 55-51. Nash Bosma put in 17 points for the Panthers who look to build some momentum off the win. Kyan VanderWoude led the Fighting Scots with 22.
  • Whitehall cruised over Fremont, 56-41. The Vikings would put together a big 2nd quarter to head to the locker room with a 29-18 lead. That only continued as Whitehall kept their momentum through much of the 3rd to hold complete control over the Packers. Kal Koehler paced the Vikings with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Ca’Mar Ready added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Jack Houtteman pitched in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Whitehall improves to 7-4 on the season. With the loss Fremont now sits at 4-4.
  • Wyoming picked up a big win over Holland, 72-54. Quinton Williams would erupt for a season-high 27 points to lead the Wolves. This one was tight throughout but a big 4th quarter, led by Williams (11 points in the final 8:00) helped finish off the Dutch. Cameron Ferguson led Holland with 12 points.
  • Wyoming Lee beat Grand River Prep, 74-52. Marc Whitfield was sensational on the night going for 31 points for the Legends. This is Whitfields second 30-point game on the season. Lee takes on a tough Zion Christian team on Friday. The Titans fall to 1-4.
  • Zeeland West defeated Mona Shores, 69-53. Merritt Alderink and Myles Steffen both led the Dux with 12 points apiece, along with 5 rebounds apiece on the night. Khi Anderson added 11 points. Jonathan Pittman (14 points), Mason Hallett (12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Jordan Bledsoe (10 points, 2 steals) paced the Sailors.

1/18/23

  • Frankenmuth cruised to a win over New Lothrop, 75-45. The Eagles knocked down 16 three-pointers in the win. Aidan Hoard led the way scoring 23 points on the night. Thomas Conzelmann added 12 points. Ty Kohlmann led the Hornets with 23 points.
  • Schoolcraft cruised to a win over Centreville, 71-51. This was a close battle at the half as the Eagles led just 37-29 but were able to put a big 2nd half together to limit the Bulldogs. Schoolcraft improves to 8-3 on the season.

1/19/23

  • Kalamazoo Central picked up a win over Battle Creek Central to improve to 9-0 on the season, 63-51. Terrence Jones led all scorers in the game with 19 points (7-10 from the free-throw line).
  • Rockford had to hit the road once again, this time to West Ottawa on Thursday night. The Rams 1st quarter picked up where the 2nd half ended on Tuesday, with scoring 25 points compared to West Ottawa’s 3. The Panthers had no answers in the 2nd quarter despite them increasing their scoring. At the half Rams 40, Panthers 19. Rockford kept the same momentum in the 2nd half scoring another 15 points in the 3rd. West Ottawa struggled again scoring the ball only giving 11 points. After 3 Rockford leading, 55-30. The 4th quarter was a complete flip of the script. The Panthers crawled their way back into the game with a 23-point quarter and hold Rockford to only 9. However, the lead that Rockford created earlier was too much for West Ottawa. The Rams pick up another one, 64-53. Caden Pokorzynski gave the Rams a 24-point effort followed by Andrew Landis with 15. 1/20/23

  • Big Rapids cruised to a win over Central Montcalm, 70-34. Winners of 5 in a row, the Cardinals improve to 7-1 on the season. They’ll await another hot team in Kent City when they welcome in the Eagles on Tuesday night.
  • Calvin Christian pulled out a tight win over Sparta, 62-54. The Squires are riding a 9-game winning streak as they improve to 10-1 on the season. They’ll look to continue that when they take on a Wyoming Kelloggsville team coming off their first win of the season. Sparta falls to 5-6 as they will look to bounce back against a solid Godwin Heights team on Tuesday. Jax Wilson put together a monster effort with 34 points on the night to reach his 1,000th career point in the game.
  • Coopersville cruised to a 48-34 win over Allendale.
  • East Grand Rapids picked up a win over Forest Hills Northern, 51-29. Simon Neuhaus picked up his 1,000th career point in the game as he led the Pioneers with 12 points. Drew Caswell pitched in 12 of his own. Arjun Taylor finished with 10 points. East moves to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference. They would face Traverse City Central on Saturday.
  • Forest Hills Central picked up a road win over Greenville, 55-45. The Rangers improve to 6-5 on the season and 3-1 in the OK White. With now five losses in a row, the Yellow Jackets sit at 5-6. Brady Miller was big for Central with 21 points on the night. Jonas VanderWoude added 13 points. Levi McKenzie finished with 10 points.
  • Frankenmuth put together one of their best games of the season to pick up a win at home over a solid Alma team, 50-34. Carson Knoll led the way for the Eagles with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Aidan Hoard finished with 12 points. Travis Brenner tallied 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Cade Sutherland led the Panthers with 13 points.
  • Godwin Heights improved to 7-2 on the season after defeating Hopkins, 66-58. Jakhary Towns put together a big night with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The Wolverines now ride a –2game winning streak.
  • A matchup of two of the top three teams in the OK Gold happened Friday night when Ottawa Hills traveled to Grand Rapids Catholic Central. The 1st quarter was what we all expected going into the game, a game won or lost inside the paint. With only two 3-pointers made in the quarter, both by Ottawa Hills, that gave the Bengals a 15-12 lead after 8-minutes. The Bengals picked up the pace offensively and shut down the Cougar offense in the 2nd quarter. At the half GRCC trailed 37-19. Just when fans started to think the game was getting out of hand, Phat Phat Brooks showed up. Brooks put up 15 of the Cougars 24 points in the 3rd quarter. That effort from Brooks gave GRCC a 43-42 lead after 3. Phat Phat kept Catholic Central rolling into the 4th quarter putting 11 more in the book. His running mate, KK Brown kicked it into gear in the 4th as well, scoring 7. Ottawa Hills had a strong 4th quarter, scoring 20 points but it was not enough. Catholic Central picks up the win, 69-62. Brooks ends with 32 and Brown ends with 13 for the Cougars. The Bengals had three players in double-digit scoring. (Report by Hudson Harkness)
  • Grand Rapids South Christian picked up a win over Wayland, 81-54. It would mark the 7th win in a row for the Sailors as it would also be a night where Christian would celebrate their State Championship Football team.Jake Vermaas (27 points) and Carson Vis (19 points) were big on the night for South Christian. The Sailors are now 9-2 on the season. They’ll face Catholic Central on Tuesday in what could be one of the best games of the high school basketball regular season. Brett Bultsma paced the Wildcats with 21 points.
  • Grand Rapids Union beat Holland, 72-50. Brian Parks (22 points) and Marquan Ross (17 points) led the Red Hawks. Holland was led by Jacob VanHekken with 22 points. Union improves to 6-3 on the season as they will turn their attention to Zeeland East when they welcome in the Chix on Tuesday.
  • Grandville picked up a win over a solid Grand Haven team, 66-53. Cam Regnerus and Logan Stockwell both finished with 17 points apiece to lead the Bulldogs. Quinton Hendrickson (13 points) and Tyson Mann (12 points) finished off a balanced Grandville scoring attack.Grandville would pick up a big 14-0 run late in this game to really put it away. Harrison Sorrelle Sophomore Will Korenstra added 11. The Bulldogs are now riding high at 7-3. They’ll face a Jenison team who has dropped two straight on Tuesday. Grand Haven drops two in a row for the first time on the season. They’ll need to figure it out in a hurry as they face a solid Hudsonville team their next time out.
  • Hamilton picked up a big win over Spring Lake, 63-48. The win moves the Hawkeyes to 9-2 on the season.They look to keep rolling when they face a struggling West Catholic team in their next game. The Lakers fall for the second game in a row as they move to 5-4, they’ll look to pick up a nice win over a good Fruitport team their next time out.
  • Hart was off and running early to cruise past Holton, 65-20. Blake Weirich (20 points) and Parker Hovey (20 points) were big to lead the way for the Pirates. Caleb Bitely added 10 points. Hart improves to 11-0 on the season. The Red Devils will look to pick up their first win of the year on Monday.
  • Hudsonville defeated Jenison, 54-43.
  • Kalamazoo Christian defeated rival Schoolcraft, 46-45. The Comets improve to 6-3.
  • Kent City grabbed a win over Reed City, 46-33. The Eagles have put together 5 wins in a row to improve to 5-3. The win also marks head coach David Ingles 100th win at Kent City. Jaret Jaramillo (14 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) and Kyler Larson (13 points, 6 rebounds) led the way for the Eagles.
  • Lawton would fall to Parchment, 52-65. Aiden O’Brien had a big night for the Blue Devils with 17 points. Parker VanPeteghem added 14. With the loss Lawton falls to 5-5 on the season. The Panthers improve to 7-4. Aaron Jasiak (21 points) and Jalen Kampen (15 points) led the way for Parchment. Darius Baker finished off the balanced attack with 11 of his own.
  • Lowell fell to Grand Rapids Christian, 35-45.
  • Loy Norrix would drop a tough battle with Battle Creek Lakeview, 57-60. The Knights, who are still down some players, would battle throughout but come up just short. Cedric Huntley led the way for Loy Norrix en route to a career high with 36 points. The Knights have a chance to bounce back when they face a solid Potterville team at Little Caesars Arena on Monday. The Spartans continue what has been a solid season (7-3) on Tuesday.
  • Mattawan continues their impressive season with a win over Gull Lake, 75-57. The win helps the Wildcats finish off a perfect first half of the season (10-0 record). Ryan Kiesling had a big night with 16 points for Mattawan. Noah Vanlaningham (12 points, 6 rebounds), Ryan Van Liere (10 points) and Connor Walsh (10 points, 7 rebounds) finished off a dominant team effort from the Wildcats. They’ll shift their focus in a hurry as they take on Kalamazoo Central in a big showdown on Tuesday.
  • Mason County Central picked up a lopsided win over Hesperia, 71-29. The Spartans dominated throughout (40-10 at the half) to move to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the WMC Rivers. Will Chye led Central with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kolden Myer added 11 points and 3 steals.
  • Montague welcomed in Oakridge, knocking off the Eagles 64-34. The Wildcats were dominant on the boards winning the rebounding battle, 42-24. Isaiah Atchison led Montague with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Braeden Johnston added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Rodney Brassfield and Owen Peterson each pitched in 10 points apiece. Makayla Goddard and Mary Thorne would lead Martin with 7 points apiece for a Clipper offense that struggled to score on the night.
  • Muskegon beat Wyoming, 84-52. The Big Reds are now 10-0 on the season. With the loss the Wolves move to 3-7. M’Khi Guy led the way for the victors with 21 points.Jordan Briggs added 13 points. Sophomore Elija Langston put together a nice game with 13 points. Anthony Sydnor (11 points) and David Day III (10 points) finished off a balanced scoring attack for the Big Reds. Muskegon will look to stay hot when they face Holland on Tuesday. Wyoming will have to be at their best their next time out as they face a tough Zeeland West team.
  • Muskegon Catholic Central got off to a slow start falling to Grand River Prep, 58-69. Jaydon Weddle was on a complete tear in the first half to score 24 points (5 three-pointers). The Crusaders would stay close most of the night but could just never get over the hump. Byran Convertini (12 points, 6 steals, 3 blocks), Chase Willer (11 points, 5 rebounds) and Sam Kartes (10 rebounds) led Catholic Central.
  • Newaygo beat Lakeview, 64-42. The win improves the Lions to 7-4 as they face a solid Reed City team on Tuesday. The Wildcats fall to 1-9 as things won’t get easier when they face Whitehall on Tuesday.
  • North Muskegon cruised to a win over Ravenna on Friday night, defeating the Bulldogs 64-35. With the loss Ravenna falls to 3-7 on the season but have a chance to bounce back against Holton on Monday. The Norse continue what has been a great start to their season as they move to 9-2. Troy McManus was big for the Norse with 24 points and 5 steals. James Young added 12 points. Jaxon Lisinski finished with 11 points.North Muskegon moves to 9-2 on the season
  • NorthPointe Christian would defeat Comstock Park, 69-35. The win is now the third in a row for the Mustangs as they look to stay hot when they face Belding in their next game.
  • Northview grabbed a road win over Byron Center, 52-39. The Wildcats improve to 10-1 on the year. Parker Swartz (12 points), Tyran Thomas (12 points) and Cam Ryans (11 points) led the Northview attack.
  • Unity Christian defeated Holland Christian, 52-41. Colin Nieuwenhuis led the way for the Saders with 21 points. Jake Chapman pitched in 6 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Cannon (14 points) and Harrison Halbert (10 points) paced the Maroons.
  • West Catholic fell to Fruitport, 54-65. Bode Anspach led the Trojans with 26 points (5 three-pointers, 9-10 from the free-throw line) as he scored in every facet of the game.Kyle Burke finished in double figures with 10 points. Fruitport would halt their two game losing streak with the win. West Catholic put together a big run in the 3rd to tie the game up at one point but the Trojans would come right back with a big run of their own.
  • Whitehall picked up a dominant win over Orchard View, 71-46. The Vikings really came out as the more physical team as they would dominate the glass, 41-23. Trannon Aylor led the way for Whitehall with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals in a great all-around game. Jack Houtteman finished with 13 points and 2 steals. Ca’Mar Ready added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. DJ Jamison pitched in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Kyle Stratton helped with 10 points and 2 steals. The Vikings put together a big 4th quarter to grab all the momentum in this one.
  • Wyoming Kelloggsville ran to a win over Belding, 60-42. Brendon Tuinstra had a big night for the Rockets with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists. Labee Chrispine pitched in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Quebec Griffin added 12 points.
  • Wyoming Lee beat Zion Christian, 74-41. With the win the Legends stay hot as they move to 9-1 on the season. They’ll face another stiff opponent in Benton Harbor Countryside Academy on Tuesday. The Moutaineers drop their second in a row but will look to respond against a struggling Martin team in their next game.
  • Zeeland East cruised to a win over Mona Shores, 65-52. Layne Risdon went out of his mind on Friday to pitch in a career-high 33 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks. The Chix look to build some momentum as they improve to 7-5 on the season. The Sailors fall to 4-7.

1/21/23

  • Benton Harbor pulled off a thrilling win over Flint Beecher, 64-62. Brian Gillespie hit the game winner to lift the Tigers to 9-2 on the season. Grant Gondrezick took home the MVP going for 26 points (10-22 from the field) and 7 rebounds. The loss moves the Bucs to 9-2.
  • East Grand Rapids knocked off Traverse City Central, 53-48. The Pioneers have some things clicking as they improve to 5-6 and ride a 4-game win streak. They’ll have a chance to keep their momentum when they take on Byron Center Tuesday night. The loss ends the Trojans 3-game winning streak.Simon Neuhaus led East with 17 points.
  • Grand Rapids Catholic Central suited up on the road Saturday against St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH). The Fighting Irish came out on fire from the field to start the game giving CC issues on both ends of the court. The Cougars trailed after 1, 21-13. The 2nd quarter saw GRCC stay competitive with SV-SM and keep the score difference the same going into half, 37-29. Catholic Central had their highest scoring quarter in the 3rd, scoring 22, but it did not matter because the Fighting Irish one-upped the Cougars scoring 23. Through 24-minutes GRCC trailed 61-51. The 4th quarter saw the Cougars offense get shut down scoring 6 points while SV-SM put 12 in the book. Catholic Central would fall to St. Vincent- St. Mary (OH), 73-57. KK Brown led all scorers with 30 points. Phat Phat Brooks would put 17 of his own in the stat sheet. (Recap by Hudson Harkness)
  • Hudsonville came out with a win over Carman-Ainsworth, 56-49. Griffin Baker (12 points, MVP) and Gibson Heethuis (10 points) led the way for the Eagles. Donovan Hamlin was big for the Cavaliers with 20 points in the game. Chris McLavish Jr. added 12 points.
  • Kalamazoo Central fell to Brother Rice, 50-67. This would give the Maroon Giants their first loss on the season. They’ll have a chance to bounce back when they take on undefeated Mattawan on Tuesday. The Warriors improve to 11-1 as they take on UD Jesuit (10-1) in their next game.
