The Coopersville Broncos hosted the Cedar Springs Red Hawks for both team’s playoff opener. It was a rematch of last year’s first-round matchup, where Cedar Springs pummeled the Broncos 45-6. This fall, the script was flipped. Coopersville blanked the Red Hawks in a 28-0 shutout victory.
It was a big night for Colton Bosch. The Broncos’ signal-caller was the star of the show, contributing to all four touchdowns. He completed 4/7 passes for 74 yards, and rushed for 137 yards on 26 carries.
In the first quarter, Bosch used his legs for a 4-yard power run up the middle. He followed that up with two additional touchdown runs in the second quarter. The first run was a 35-yard scamper, and the other was a 7-yard carry.
Ahead 21-0 with nine minutes to play, the Broncos got their final touchdown on an 8-yard toss from Bosch to Ryan Serba.
The Red Hawks’ offense was stifled for their third shutout of the season. In the first two weeks of the year, against River Rouge and Zeeland West, Cedar Springs was also unable to put points on the board.
Next week, Coopersville will look to secure their first District Championship since 2007. Standing in their way will be the Muskegon Big Reds.
