With emotions running high for Lawton, playing for their teammate Cole Tanis, the Blue Devils delivered a big win on Friday night. They cruised past Schoolcraft 49-14.

In the first quarter, Lawton raced out to a 14-0 lead. Aiden O’Brien and Kal Motter each rushed for touchdowns. Motter’s second touchdown, a 4-yard catch from O’Brien extended the lead to 21 points early in the second quarter.

Schoolcraft would find the endzone on a quick pass, but Lawton responded with two additional touchdowns. Caleb Mallory broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run, and O’Brien tossed another score. Coach Wade Waldrup’s Blue Devils led comfortably, 35-7, at halftime.

The third frame saw Motter add his third touchdown run of the night. This 52-yard sprint to paydirt was paired with a sixth made extra point by Logan Nap. Schoolcraft would strike first in the fourth quarter, but Motter’s fourth and final touchdown run sealed the win. His 55-yard score sealed the sixth victory in seven tries for Lawton.

Just hours before the game, Lawton announced that their final two regular season opponents have changed. In Week 8, they will travel to Thirlby Field to face Traverse City St Francis. The state powerhouse Gladiators are currently 6-0 on the season. In Week 9, Lawton will return home to face Detroit Loyola. The Bulldogs are just 1-6, but have played elite programs such as Detroit County Day, Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Ottawa Lake Whiteford, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, UD Jesuit and Dearborn Divine Child this fall. These two matchups will be extremely challenging, but should go a long way in preparing the Lawton crew for the postseason.
