Grand Rapids Christian 48 Newaygo 37: The Eagles took down the Lions out at Cornerstone in the Holiday Tournament. Hannah Sall paced GRC with 14, while Jaxi Long led Newaygo with 18.

Kent City 59 Forest Hills Eastern 49: The Eagles punched their ticket to the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament championship game with a win over FHE. Lexie Bowers (24) and Madelyn Geers (21) led Kent City, while Brooke Toigo (16) sparked FHE offensively.

 

TUESDAY DECEMBER 21

Covenant Christian 45 Central Montcalm 35: The Chargers defeated the Hornets in a non-league battle. Maia Sexton led CM with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Frankenmuth 67 Standish-Sterling 31: The Eagles more than doubled up the Panthers on Tuesday evening. Frankenmuth built a 16-5 first quarter lead and transitioned that into a 38-12 advantage. Zoey Persails paced the offense with 18 points, while Mia McLaughlin added 16 points. Emma Kerkau also finished in double figures with 14 points. The Eagles are now 5-0 on the season.

Lowell 62 Jenison 52: The Red Arrows pulled out a narrow win over Jenison on Tuesday night. Terin Maynard had 20 for Jenison, and Sam Timmer added 11. Braxcynn Baker led Lowell with 27 points. Emma Bruwer (16) and Piper Risdon (10) also finished in double figured for the Red Arrows.

Rockford 52 Grand Rapids Catholic Central 36: The Rams used swarming defense to advance to the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament championship game. Rockford forced over 25 turnovers from GRCC, and used an 11-2 run to create a 11-point first quarter lead. Rockford would never look back, with the game never drawing back within single digits. Alyssa Wypych led Rockford with 17 points, while Grace Lyons added 13. GRCC was led by Ella Mondroski (12) and Katie Passinault (9).

Sparta 53 Fremont 9: The host Packers scored to go ahead 3-0 early, but they were overwhelmed the remaining 47 minutes of the game. Sparta scored 39 unanswered points in the first half to go to halftime with a 39-3 edge. Bella Vallone scored 16 points for Sparta.

West Catholic 64 Forest Hills Central 32: Two of the area’s best players squared off in this semifinal of the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament. Abbey Kimball and West Catholic earned the win over Theryn Hallock and FHC. Kimball had 11 points, and her teammate Cadence Dykstra added 10. The Falcons jumped out to a 13-2 lead, forcing turnovers consistently. The Rangers were able to get back within five, but the pressure from WC ramped up and they ballooned their lead back to 23 at halftime. FHC played a strong third quarter, but it would not prevent them from being doubled up. Therryn Hallock had 13 points for the Rangers in defeat. Maggie Sneider led FHC with 15 points and an impressive performance on the glass.
