The North Muskegon Norsemen secured their first victory against Montague since 2016, snapping a six-game losing streak. It was 27-7 in favor of the Norsemen, who used effective offensive attacks and a potent defense to capture the win.
In the first four minutes of the game, North Muskegon found the end zone twice. James Young kept the football for a 5-yard carry. On the second scoring drive, Denny Belmonte broke off an 8-yard run to give the Norsemen a 14-0 lead.
Montague would score on the final play of the first quarter, as Adam Baird powered across the goal line from 2 yards out. The Wildcats would trail 14-7 after the first quarter, and at halftime.
North Muskegon would pad their lead with two third quarter touchdowns. James Young started things with a 12-yard touchdown toss to TJ Byard. Late in the frame, Ben Meyers rushed for a 10-yard touchdown.
James Young paced North Muskegon with a 24/31 passing night. Young tossed for 263 yards and the touchdown toss to Byard. Denny Belmonte (58 rushing) and Carsen Moat (79 receiving) led the team in yardage.
Next week, North Muskegon (5-1) will look to build on their record as they face Ravenna. Montague (2-4) will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they face Fremont.
