The Mendon Hornets travelled to Gobles for the fifth game of the 2022 campaign. They faced little trouble in capturing their third win of the season, a 36-6 win over Gobles.

Nic Stiver got Mendon started with a 38-yard touchdown catch from Luke Schinker. This would be the lone first quarter touchdown, giving Mendon a 6-0 lead.

Jack McCaw continued expanding the lead with a pair of touchdown runs. First, he reeled off a 41-yard race to the end zone. Two minutes later, he bolted through the Tigers’ defense on a 57-yard jaunt to paydirt. This gave Mendon a 20-0 advantage.

With twenty-seven seconds left before the half, Gobles got on the scoreboard. Eli DeYoung paired up with Xavier Wilkes on a 20-yard touchdown pass. This trimmed the deficit to fourteen points, 20-6, at the half.

In the second half, scoring was limited. Mendon scored twice to pad their final lead. The third quarter saw Luke Schinker use his legs on a 1-yard keeper. Evan Lukeman finished the scoring with a 6-yard carry to the end zone.

Mendon outgained Gobles 367-285, with 299 rushing yards leading the way. Jack McCaw paced the victors with 204 rushing yards, another phenomenal game for the young ballcarrier.

Mendon (3-2) will take on Fennville next week. Gobles (3-2) will step out of league play to face off with Concord.
