The Byron Center Bulldogs travelled to Lowell to take on the Red Arrows in a pivotal OK White matchup. Byron Center raced out to a big lead, before holding off Lowell’s fourth quarter charge, capturing a 48-35 victory.

Jordan Alcala got the Red Arrows started with a 10-yard touchdown run. Byron Center responded with two touchdowns of their own. First, Hunter Schichtel kept the football on a 9-yard jaunt to the end zone. On their next scoring drive, Jason Sevigny ripped off a 35-yard touchdown run. This gave the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead after the opening frame.

These were the first two of six consecutive Byron Center drives that resulted in Byron Center scoring a touchdown. The second quarter set of drives saw Schichtel toss a 55-yard touchdown to Isaac Lee, before he rushed for a 12-yard score. This gave the Bulldogs a 28-7 halftime lead.

Byron Center struck first in the third quarter, as Schichtel rushed for a 34-yard touchdown. Lowell would snap the run with another touchdown run by Jordan Alcala. The two teams exchanged another set of touchdowns in the frame. Blake Ottow found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run. Lowell countered with a Tacho Gonzales touchdown run. After three quarters of play, Byron Center led 42-21.

Lowell outscored Byron Center in the final quarter, but it would not be enough. Byron Center outgained Lowell 474-357 in this game. The Bulldogs rushed for 404 yards in this win. Hunter Schichtel led the way with 297 rushing yards on 19 carries. He accounted for six touchdowns (five rushing, one passing). Jordan Alcala set the tone for Lowell’s ground attack with 142 rushing yards on 27 carries.

Next week, Byron Center (2-2) will take on Greenville. Lowell (3-1) will square up against Forest Hills Northern.
