The Mendon Hornets suffered their second close loss in three weeks last Friday, falling to Bridgman 56-50. This week, they wasted no time putting Bloomingdale out of reach. Mendon scored six times in the first quarter on their way to a 54-0 victory.

Mendon scored at the 9:55 mark of the first quarter, when Jack McCaw broke off a 40-yard touchdown run. He would complete the Octopus with his two-point conversion run, giving the Hornets an 8-0 lead.

Two minutes later, McCaw tossed it up to Evan Lukeman. Lukeman would haul in the 19-yard score. Just twenty-two seconds later, McCaw and Luke Schinker connected on a 51-yard touchdown toss. McCaw’s two-point try gave Mendon a 22-0 advantage.

Evan Lukeman (30 yards), Dylan Cupp (5 yards) and Jack McCaw (40 yards) would all score once more in the frame. This gave Mendon a 42-0 lead with 1:41 left in the first quarter.

The lead would remain unchanged, until the 10:30 mark of the third quarter. Owen Gorham took a handoff and scored from 3 yards out. Finally, Mason Wilczynski reeled off a 37-yard touchdown run for the victorious Hornets.

Mendon outgained Bloomingdale 316-25. The Cardinals had just three first downs, while committing two turnovers. The Hornets’ rushing attack was balanced with McCaw leading the team with 80 yards.

Mendon (2-2) will look to pick up another win next week against Gobles. Bloomingdale (0-4) will be looking for their first points and victory against Marcellus.
