The Martin Clippers had little trouble against Marcellus on Friday night, improving their record to 3-0 both overall and in the SWMFL. They were able to capture a 60-0 win over the Wildcats.
JR Hildebrand ran just two times, but racked up 88 yards and two touchdowns. He was also 4/6 passing for 136 yards and two scores. His first touchdown pass was a 40-yard strike to Braeden Shanley on the opening play from scrimmage. Later, Hildebrand paired up with Karter Ribble on a 75-yard strike.
Karter Ribble would later toss a touchdown, connecting with Taegan Harris for a 36-yard score. Harris also added a 30-yard touchdown run.
Bryce Robinson scored his first touchdown of the season for Martin. Sophomore quarterback Gavin Meyers tossed his first varsity score as well, finding senior Drake Buell on a 47-yard touchdown.
Martin rushed for over 300 yards for the second straight week, while rushing for 225. They recorded their first shutout of the year. Statistically, the defense was led by Chris Tuinstra who had 10 tackles and 3 TFLs. Juniors Michael Branch and Jackson Robinson each made key contributions by forcing turnovers.
“We are starting to find our identity as a team”, Martin Head Coach Brad Blauvelt shared. “Tonight, we played together, everyone stepped up and played a key role. We want to build momentum each week, and tonight we did what we needed to do to meet that goal.”
In defeat, Marcellus’ Parker Adams finished 8/18 passing for 141 yards. Nathan Mihills was his top target with 94 yards receiving.
Next Thursday, Martin will take on Bangor. Marcellus will face Lawrence in Week 4, a crossover matchup against the Tigers.
