A ‘Battle of the Birds’ took place on Thursday night between the West Catholic Falcons and the Ferndale Eagles. The Falcons were coming in at 1-0, while the Eagles were 0-1. Unfortunately for Ferndale, it was all West Catholic in a 43-0 thrashing.

The Falcons had a dominant first half, scoring 30 points. The first score came from TimKloska, who scored four touchdowns last week. He ran it to the house for 14 yards, with a successful PAT.

The second quarter started with Cole Bauer finding the end zone to make the score 14-0. West Catholic’s defense was able to get on the board minutes later after causing a safety.

Bernie Varnesdeel took charge the rest of the game, throwing for a total of four touchdowns. He found Carter Parry, Joe Debski, and Ryan Snow (twice) for touchdowns. He ended the game with 174 yards on just 8 completions. Tim Kloska was held to only one touchdown, but carried the ball for 169 yards total.

Ferndale struggled to progress down the field, only getting five first downs all game long. Darnell Bates threw for a total of 78 yards with Cordae McAllister as his main receiver.

Next week, West Catholic will begin OK Blue play with a trip to Spring Lake, who is 1-1. Ferndale will look to bounce back after another tough loss, now sitting at 0-2. They are set to play Royal Oak.
