Big Rapids offense found its rhythm on Thursday night, as Newaygo gets blanked for the second time this season.

Charlie Hewer got the scoring starting with a 5-yard run. Soon after the Hewer touchdown, Wil Strickler wanted in on the action and reached on a 4-yard score. At the end of the first quarter, the Cardinals led 14-0.

When the second quarter rolled around, Strickler added another touchdown to his tally as he ran for 37-yards and six. As the quarter continued, Strickler connected with Zander Prince for the 22-yard pitch and catch that led to another Big Rapids score. At the break, the Cardinals held the 27-0 advantage over Newaygo.

Out of the break, the Newaygo defense held the Big Rapids offense out of the end zone, but Jace Heck split the uprights on a 30-yard field goal attempt. Late in the third quarter, Riley Vennix reached on the game’s final score to give Big Rapids the 37-0 win over Newaygo. Through two games, the Lions are still yet to put a point on the scoreboard.

Big Rapids now sits 1-1 on the season and will be hosting Central Montcalm next week. The Lions fall to 0-2 and will hit the road to face Morley-Stanwood in week 3.
