The Fremont Packers travelled to Hart for Friday night’s season opener. Both now members of the West Michigan Conference, these two schools are meeting in crossover purposes.

A highly defensive first quarter left this game scoreless after twelve minutes of action. With four minutes before halftime, Hart would get on the board first. Their 10-yard touchdown run, paired with a conversion, put them ahead 8-0.

Fremont would answer a mere three minutes later, as Kyler DeKupier found the end zone on a 2-yard touchdown run. The Packers went back to DeKuiper, who picked up the conversion and tied the game at 8 heading into the half.

After the break, Fremont would continue to add on their side of the scoreboard. Michael Romero found the end zone after intercepting a Hart pass and returning it all the way to the house. Fremont’s defense would stand tall, as they held Hart off the board in the second half. Fremont’s Justin Dirtheimer found the end zone on a 4-yard touchdown run to make the lead 22-8.

While their offense added north of 250 all-purpose yards, Fremont’s defense stole the show. The Packers kept Hart to less than 100 yards, only 7 first downs, and they created two turnovers.

Next week, Fremont’s schedule gets tougher. They will face Beaverton, who has made the playoffs in five of the past six years. Hart will take on White Cloud in a CSAA-WMC crossover game.
