The Maroons opened their 2022 season with a match-up against crosstown rivals Holland. This rendition was a very one-sided affair, with Holland Christian dominating both offensively and defensively. The end result was a 58-0 shutout for the Maroons.

The ball was well distributed between receivers and rushers for Holland Christian, with seven different players taking the ball into the end zone for the Maroons. Eli Boyce started at QB, as they lost their previous QB to a cross-state transfer. He threw the ball for a total of 130 yards and three touchdown passes. He found Connor Smits, Ethan Abberger, and Brody Nelson for touchdowns. The rushing game for Holland Christian was on point with four different runners finding the end zone. Luke Conklin, Patrick Tait, Meta Hoekstra, and Carter Spencer all ran it to the house for six.

The Maroons’ defense also had a stellar performance with three interceptions. One of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown. Carter Brower was the sole defender to bring it into the end zone last night, while Connor Smits, Luke Conklin, and Luke Bushouse were able to terminate Dutch drives with interceptions.

Holland Christian will host Wayland in their newly renovated football stadium next Thursday, with hopes of adding another one to the win column. Holland will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Comstock Park.
