The Marion Eagles have been part of the upper echelon of Division 2 8-Man football teams as of late. They have made five straight trips to the playoffs, and two consecutive visits to the semifinals. On Thursday, they took on Lawrence in the opening game of the season, and delivered the Tigers a humbling defeat, 68-16.

Lawrence was unable to stop the Eagles attack throughout the evening. When the Tigers had their offensive success, it came from quarterback Ben McCaw. McCaw finished 7/18 passing, racking up 121 yards and a touchdown. He also led the Tigers in rushing with 26 yards and their other touchdown on 11 carries, Christian Smith added 23 rushing yards, while Johnny Schuman paced the Lawrence recievers with 96 yards and a score.

Defensively, Lawrence was led by Noel Saldana with six tackles. Schuman and Smith each had 5 tackles and one tackle-for-loss, while Connor Tangeman added four tackles and two tackles-for-loss.

Lawrence will look to rebound on the road next week, as they face Eau Claire. Marion begins the WMFL-8 season next week against Bear Lake.
