The ninth week of the season saw Hesperia and Shelby set to square off. Both teams suffered defeats in all contests prior to this game, Hesperia was 0-7 and Shelby 0-8. The Panthers were able to edge the Tigers on Friday night, capturing their first win of the season.
In the first quarter, Hesperia and Shelby exchanged touchdowns. Brandon Quinn got Hesperia on the board first, reeling off a 26-yard touch. Shelby evened the count with a 30-yard touchdown toss from Isaiah Garcia to Travis Boughan. Neither team made the conversion attempt, leaving the score even at six.
Hesperia jumped back ahead in the second quarter, as Quinn rushed for another score. The Panthers got their halftime lead up to eight when Armando Escobejo found Kohen Heckman for a two-point conversion.
Shelby brought back to even on a touchdown run by Cade Clement. The next three touchdowns went to Hesperia. Quinn returned to the end zone on a 2-yard run, his third score of the game. Armando Escobejo used his legs on a 3-yard quarterback keeper early in the fourth quarter. Brandon Quinn rounded out the scoring with a 39-yard sprint to the end zone. Shelby rounded out the scoring with a Travis Boughan pass to Nick Baffi that went for a 61-yard touchdown.
Brandon Quinn rushed for 254 yards in this win, taking 34 carries as Hesperia’s feature back. Armando Escobejo added 71 rushing yards for the Panthers. Shelby has now lost 17 straight games dating back to 2019.
