The South Christian Sailors had little problem with Ottawa Hills on Friday night, securing a convincing victory. The 49-7 win is the sixth of the year for the Sailors.
In the first quarter, Chandler VanSolkema got South Christian rolling. On their first scoring drive, VanSolkema’s 55-yard sprint capped off a 4-yard, 83-yard drive. This score came after Jace DeMann secured an interception. Later in the quarter, after Cam Post recovered a fumble, South Christian had a short field once more. VanSolkema rushed for an 11-yard touchdown, giving the team a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the rushing attack of South Christian continued. Jake DeHaan, the South Christian quarterback, used his legs to reel off a 43-yard touchdown sprint. Chandler VanSolkema would add two more rushing scores, on carries of 9 and 25 yards, giving the Sailors a 35-0 halftime lead.
With the running clock in effect, scoring plays were limited. Sam Barr managed to score twice in the second half, with short runs of 2 and 5 yards. Tyrell Cross broke the dry spell for Ottawa Hills with an 85-yard touchdown sprint.
The Sailors outgained Ottawa Hills 369-142 in this game. Chandler VanSolkema led the way with 115 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on 8 carries. Jake DeHaan was 8/13 passing for 142 yards. Tyrell Cross had 100 rushing yards for the Bengals.
Next week, South Christian will square off against Cedar Springs. Ottawa Hills will try to earn their third win against Middleville.
