The Britton Deerfield Patriots have made history in their 8-man debut campaign. With Friday’s victory against Stryker, a high school just across the Ohio border, they matched a program record in victories in a single-season (2012) with 8. In this victory, they set a new school record for scoring, capturing a 75-0 victory.

Britton Deerfield scored three times in the opening frame. Just seventy-five seconds into the action, Nico Johnson found Clayton Hauser on a 13-yard pass. On their next drive, Nico used his legs on a 3-yard quarterback keeper. Nick Wayne joined the scoring column with a 10-yard carry. Three successful conversion runs by Nico Johnson put the Patriots ahead 24.

In the second quarter, the Patriots scored four times. Five seconds into the frame, Nico Johnson found Mason Mueller on a 12-yard toss. On their next possession, Nico used his legs for a 34-yard touchdown. Nick Wayne scored for a second time, reeling off a 30-yard sprint to the goal line. The final first half score came when Johnson and Mueller paired up on a 22-yard touchdown toss. Britton Deerfield took a 54-0 lead into the locker room.

The running clock was in effect throughout the second half, but it did not phase the Patriots’ offense. Nico Johnson scored in the opening minute of the half, a 54-yard quarterback sprint to the end zone. Later in the third, Asher Wiser carried the ball 25 yards for a score. In the final quarter, Tristan Johnson powered across the goal line from a yard out.

Britton Deerfield outgained Stryker 400-(-26) in this game. The opposing Panthers did accumulate 29 passing yards, but they finished with -55 yards rushing. Britton Deerfield passed for 110 yards and rushed for 290. Nico Johnson completed 7/9 passes and used 12 carries to rack up 170 rushing yards. Johnson continues his campaign as one of the State’s best players with 16 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing scores.

Next week, Britton Deerfield will face their toughest test to date. They will conclude the regular season against Adrian Lenawee Christian, who is the defending Division 1 8-Man State Champions. The Cougars have won 19 straight contests, dominating their opponents 443-59 this season. On Friday, ALC defeated Bellevue 75-0, their second 70-point output.
