The Muskegon Catholic Central Crusaders returned to action on Friday night after a one-week hiatus. They had a Lakes 8 battle with Ludington, and the Orioles were no match for MCC. It was a runaway victory that resulted in a 37-0 win.
In the opening quarter, MCC scored twice. David Hill struck first, as he powered across the goal line from twelve yards out. Later in the quarter, Joe Waller raced to the end zone on a 39-yard carry. A successful two-point try gave the Crusaders a 14-0 lead.
The offense continued in the second quarter, as MCC found the end zone twice more. Nick Powell was the first culprit, as he bowled across the goal line from four yards out. With twenty seconds to go before halftime, Elliot Riegler kept the football, scrambling for a 21-yard touchdown. The Crusaders led 28-0 at the half.
Muskegon Catholic Central would have two scoring drives in the second half to round out the victory. Joe Waller returned to the end zone, plunging across the goal line from two yards out. Jaden Johnson would provide the fourth quarter excitement with a 32-yard field goal.
Joe Waller led MCC with 136 rushing yards on 10 carries. Jarron Childers turned nine carries into 66 yards, while Elliot Riegler finished with 55.
Trey Forfinski led Ludington with a 12/19 passing day, racking up 108 yards. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 44 yards on 12 carries.
The Crusaders are now 3-1 in 2021. Next Friday, they will face Benton Harbor in a non-conference battle. Ludington is now 1-3 on the season, and they will tangle with Muskegon Heights next week.
