The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles took down East Grand Rapids last week in a wild 13-11 ballgame. This week, they brought their record to even in a 49-19 victory over Greenville.

On the opening drive of the game, the ‘Jackets took the lead. Noah Foster booted a 22-yard field goal to cap off the scoring drive. The lead was short lived, as on the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles took flight. Aviere Thomas fielded the kick and weaved his way through the oncoming kick team for a 76-yard return touchdown.

Thomas wasn’t done scoring, as he stepped in front of a pass and raced to the end zone. With a minute to play in the first quarter, Alek Wickstrom and CJ Jones connected on a 57-yard touchdown pass, giving the Eagles a 21-7 advantage.

Wickstrom aired it out to start the scoring in the second quarter. He paired up with Aviere Thomas for a 55-yard strike, and Thomas’ third score of the night. CJ Jones powered across the line from 7 yards out to extend the GRC lead. Greenville would stop the run with another Noah Foster field goal, this time from 33 yards. As a result, it was 35-6 Grand Rapids Christian at halftime.

The ‘Jackets scored first in the third quarter. Logan Boyer stepped in front of a pass from Wickstrom, and he returned the football to the end zone. GRC would respond quickly, as Ja’Martae Hogan reeled off a 65-yard sprint to the end zone. Hogan would add another score, a 25-yard run to cap off GRC’s scoring.

Greenville would get one final touchdown, the lone scoring play in the fourth quarter. AJ Fox found Jagger Feazel on a 5-yard pass.

Alek Wickstrom finished 9/11 for 204 yards in this victory. Ja’Martae Hogan led the rushing attack with 9 carries for 134 yards. CJ Jones paced the receivers with 105 yards on just three catches.

AJ Fox was 9/17 for Greenville, tossing for 173 yards. Nick Earles was the ‘Jackets leading rusher with 72 yards on 17 carries. Logan Boyer caught three passes, tallying 107 yards.

Grand Rapids Christian is now 2-2 in 2021. They will face Lowell next Friday. Greenville, now 0-3 on the season, will match up against Forest Hills Central in their next game.
