The Muskegon Heights Tigers had a frustrating 2020 season in which they cancelled all football activities. Nobody felt that pain more than Friday’s opponent Calvin Christian, who also cancelled their season. Muskegon Heights appears to be well ahead of schedule with a 36-12 victory against the Squires.
After a scoreless first quarter, Muskegon Heights struck first. Ja’Kari Edwards scrambled away from defenders and he found his way to the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run. Anthony Floyd converted the two-point try, extending their edge to eight points at halftime.
In the final minute of the third quarter, Edwards and Damond Davis paired up for a 13-yard touchdown pass that came on a fourth-and-twelve. The successful conversion gave the Heights a 16-0 lead.
Paul Bouma IV got the Squires on the board with a 2-yard run. On the very next play from scrimmage, Edwards and Ashton Smith connected for a 71-yard touchdown pass. Floyd managed to tack on another run, giving the Heights a 30-6 lead. Edwards and Smith passed for the final Muskegon Heights score.
Ja’Kari Edwards led the Tigers with an effective day passing, posting a 5/11 showing for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Anthony Floyd added 111 yards on the ground.
Next week, Muskegon Heights is currently without an opponent. Their scheduled opponent, Wyoming Lee, is not scheduled to play 11-man football this fall. Calvin Christian will conclude their non-conference slate against Sterling Heights Parkway Christian, still looking for their first win since August 30, 2019.
