High School hockey returned to the rink this week after months away. A summary of the scores around the Michigan Sports Radio coverage zone:

MONDAY FEBRUARY 8

East GR 10 GR Christian 2: The Pioneers opened 2021 with an explosive scoring display. They scored five of their goals in the final period to expand the closing margin. Ryley Sikkenga paced EGR with five goals and one assist, while Ted Campbell added four points (1 goal, 3 assists).

Northview 3 Kalamazoo United 1: Northview scored once in each period to begin the year with a victory. Filip Ananiew provided all the scoring, finishing the contest with a hat trick.

Grand Haven 8 East Kentwood 1: The Bucs blitzed the Falcons in their opener. Grand Haven scored five times in the first, and three times in the third in this blowout. Braden Nielsen led the way with five points (3 goals, 2 assists), while Tristen Goss added four (1 goal, 3 assists).

FHNE 3 Grandville 1: The FHNE club built a 3-0 lead before allowing a late goal. Tyler Nickelson, Mitchell Boegema and Sam Seeber scored for FHNE, while Ayden Riley finished with two assists. Gavin Rozema scored Grandville’s lone goal.

 

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 9

Byron Center 4 Rockford 2: The Bulldogs took down the Rams in both teams’ first game. Trailing 2-1, Byron Center scored three goals in the final period. Nik Schepers, Trevor Davis, Ryan Pratt and Gage Pietenpol scored for BC, while Braeden Fouchea and Carson Korte found the net for Rockford.

 

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 10

Grandville 8 Hudsonville 3: Grandville rebounded from Monday with a strong offensive display on Wednesday. Gavin Rozema finished with four points (2 goals, 2 assists), while Andrew Uturo added two goals. Drew Mulder scored two of Hudsonville’s three goals in their defeat.

Mona Shores 4 GR Christian 3: The Sailors won in an emotional night of hockey against the Eagles. Scotty Cotner provided the game-winner for Mona Shores, and Nico Taylor had two assists.

Bay Reps 1 Big Rapids 0: The Cardinals lost their opener in overtime on Wednesday. Kaleb Miller scored the game-winner in the extra frame for Bay Reps. It was the lone flaw in a phenomenal game for Eric Standen, who saved 45/46 shots.

Lowell/Caledonia 4 Forest Hills Central 0: The L/C team started 2021 with a shutout victory against the Rangers. Austin Douma, Nick Lockhart, Dylan Olsen and Alex Skibinski finished with goals for Lowell/Cal. Garrett Walker posted a shutout with eighteen saves.

Rockford 8 Reeths-Puffer 2: The Rams earned their first win with an offensive blitz against the Rockets. Will Haggerty finished with a hat trick for Rockford, while Carson Korte added two goals. Sam Convertini and Matt Herniman scored for Puffer.

West Ottawa 2 Mattawan 2: The Panthers and Wildcats played to an even draw on Wednesday. Cam Dunn and Kobie Garcia scored for WO, who allowed a late goal to allow this game to finish as a tie.

Grand Haven 8 Northview 0: The Bucs move to 2-0 with another dominant victory. Grand Haven scored five goals in the second period alone. Braden Nielsen posted a hat trick, while Tristen Goss and Nicklas Braidwood both scored twice.

Kenowa Hills 9 Jenison 2: The Knights topped the Wildcats in Wednesday’s contest. Nolan Bruxvoort scored four times, while Ryan Freres posted a hat trick. Mike York led Kenowa Hills with four assists.
