The Ravenna Bulldogs went 3-3 in the regular season, a product of playing the top three teams in the challenging West Michigan Conference this year. If there was any relief throughout the program that league play was over, you could sense it on the field Friday night. They played loose and it was effective, as they rolled to a 31-0 shutout against Morley Stanwood.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs scored once to take an early lead. With 2:14 to go in the first, Kyle Beebe kept the football, and the quarterback scored on a four yard run. Hunter Hogan booted the extra point to make it 7-0.
Midway through the second quarter, Hogan added three more points to the scoreboard. He converted a thirty-eight yard field goal to move the score to 10-0 in favor of Ravenna. Their lead would extend to seventeen points after a touchdown in the final minute of the quarter. Beebe and Hogan continued their hot start with a thirty yard touchdown strike.
Ahead by three scores already, Ravenna added to their lead with three more scoring plays. First, Beebe and Thomas McCullough paired up for a three-yard touchdown toss. With just over a minute to play in the third, Ravenna’s defense stepped up and forced a safety by sacking Morley Stanwood’s quarterback in the end zone. Steven Cook, who tackled the quarterback, added a touchdown run to bring the game to its final tally of 31-0.
Ravenna’s defense was impressive throughout this game. They held the Mohawks to (-3) yards of offense, and they forced a trio of turnovers.
Offensively, the Bulldogs gained 397 yards. Kyle Beebe is tonight’s Redi Rental Ravenna Bulldog of the Game with his stellar play. He tossed for 206 yards and two touchdowns, and he also rushed for a touchdown. Steven Cook added 104 yards rushing, while Hunter Hogan led the receivers with 83 yards and his touchdowns.
Next week, Ravenna will hit the road to take on #1 seed Ithaca. The Yellowjackets are undefeated on the season, and they advanced to the second round after a forfeit victory against Lakeview.
