The Holton Red Devils began their playoff push against White Cloud on Friday in a #4 v #5 matchup. Both teams fought hard throughout this game, but ultimately the Red Devils were able to win this game 23-17.

Holton rushed for 245 yards in this game, with Kevin Erickson pacing the team with 77 yards. Chase Albright added 67 yards, while quarterback Austin Fowler added 55 and Kaleb Nichols chipped in 44 yards. The stellar play of the Holton offensive line (Chris Hall, Dylan Cartwright, Gabe Reed, Jaden Israel, and Jarod Coburn) should be highlighted tonight.

Fowler was able to throw effectively as well, turning his six completions into 102 yards for Holton. He also tossed a touchdown in the closing minutes of this game that proved to be the game-winner. With two minutes to go, he connected on a fifty-one yard pass to Bret Hosmer, and that gave the Red Devils a six point advantage.

White Cloud mounted one final drive, but Holton’s Kevin Erickson stepped in front of a pass and sealed the game with an interception.

Dylan Cartwright and Hunter Hoofman stepped up defensively for Holton as well, as they each had eight tackles in the win.

Next week, Holton will play in the district semifinals. They hit the road to take on a tough Fowler team who is seeded #1 in the region. Fowler advanced tonight by taking down #8 seed Fulton 19-0.
